"Sabri Ülker Science Award 2020" Applications Now Open

Sabri Ülker Science Award Winner to be Announced at Metabolism and Life Symposium Applications have opened for the "Sabri Ülker Science Award 2020," organised by the Sabri Ülker Foundation within its mission to encourage young scientists and support the presentation of research findings for the benefit of society. The award winner, whose applications will be accepted until 15 March 2020, will be announced at the Metabolism and Life Symposium to be held in Istanbul between 3-5 June 2020, hosted by the Sabri Ülker Foundation and organised by the Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center. The Sabri Ülker Foundation, which implements numerous important sustainable projects aimed at contributing to the future of public health and delivering accurate and up-to-date information on nutrition, food and healthy living to all segments of society from reliable sources, has begun accepting applications for the "Sabri Ülker Science Award" competition. The Sabri Ülker Science Award, which the Foundation has implemented since 2014 to encourage young scientists and support the presentation of research findings for the benefit of society, will have its winner announced at the Metabolism and Life Symposium to be held in Istanbul between 3-5 June 2020.

Stem Cell Research Brought Award to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamer Önder

The Sabri Ülker Science Award, which grants TRY 100,000 to the winning scientific project, is being organised under the theme "Nutrition, Metabolism and Public Health." The competition, which is open to international applications and has set the maximum age limit at 45, accepts applications only in English with completed original projects. Applications for the competition can be submitted until 15 March 2020 via https://scienceaward.sabriulkerfoundation.org. Last year, the Sabri Ülker Science Award was given to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamer Önder, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics at Koç University School of Medicine, for his work on stem cells aimed at producing iPSC cells from individuals with genetic or chronic metabolic diseases and developing new treatment methods more rapidly. In previous years, the award was given to Asst. Prof. Dr. Ömer Yılmaz from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cancer Research Institute for his research titled "Intestinal Stem Cells and Their Relationship to Metabolism and Nutrition," to Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Erbay from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent University for her project "Bioactive Lipids for Health," and to Asst. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Birsoy from Rockefeller University for his project using "DNA-Barcoding Technology" that sheds light on the discovery of new, sustainable and economical treatment methods in the fight against cancer.

Metabolism and Life Symposium Being Held in Istanbul This Year

The Metabolism and Life Symposium will be held between 3-5 June 2020 under the hosting of the Sabri Ülker Foundation and organised by the Harvard Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, chaired by Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, with the participation of scientists in the field of metabolism from around the world. The symposium this year will focus on elucidating the molecular details of metabolic diseases and applying these findings to the treatment and prevention of metabolic diseases. The symposium will also serve as a platform for young academics to meet with international scientists and build new networks.

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil Ranked Among 2019's Most Cited Researchers

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, Director of the Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, is included in the list of 2019's most cited researchers as determined by Web of Science. At the Center, scientific research is conducted to understand the mechanisms underlying chronic and metabolic diseases and to identify new treatment pathways in combating these major threats to public health worldwide. Supporting young researchers, the Center also provides researchers with opportunities to implement their work, collaborate with and work alongside some of the world's most important scientists.
