Sabri Ülker Foundation Holds "Sabri Ülker Science Award 2020" Competition

Sabri Ülker Foundation is conducting the "Sabri Ülker Science Award 2020" competition as part of its mission to encourage young scientists and support the dissemination of research findings for public benefit. Applications have begun. Applications will be accepted until 15 March 2020, with the award winner to be announced at the Metabolism and Life Symposium to be held in Istanbul between 3-5 June 2020, organized by the Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center and hosted by Sabri Ülker Foundation. Sabri Ülker Foundation, which implements numerous important sustainable projects with the goal of contributing to the future of public health and delivering accurate and current information on nutrition, food and healthy living from reliable sources to all segments of society, has begun accepting applications for the "Sabri Ülker Science Award" competition. Since 2014, the Foundation has been organizing the Sabri Ülker Science Award with the objective of encouraging young scientists and supporting the dissemination of research findings for public benefit. The winner will be announced at the Metabolism and Life Symposium to be held in Istanbul between 3-5 June 2020. Stem Cell Research award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Tamer Önder. The Sabri Ülker Science Award, which awards the winning scientific project TRY 100,000, is organized under the theme "Nutrition, Metabolism and Public Health." Open to international applications and with an upper age limit of 45, the competition accepts only completed original projects submitted in English. Applications to the competition can be submitted until 15 March 2020 at https://scienceaward.sabriulkerfoundation.org. Last year, the Sabri Ülker Science Award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Tamer Önder, Faculty Member of the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics, Basic Medical Sciences, School of Medicine at Koç University, for his work specifically on stem cells aimed at producing UPK cells from individuals with genetic or chronic metabolic diseases and developing new treatment methods more rapidly. In previous years, the Award was given to Asst. Prof. Ömer Yılmaz at the Cancer Research Institute at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for his research titled "The Relationship Between Intestinal Stem Cells, Metabolism and Nutrition," to Asst. Prof. Ebru Erbay from Bilkent University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics for his project "Bioactive Lipids for Health," and to Asst. Prof. Kıvanç Birsoy from Rockefeller University for his project using "DNA-Barcoding Technology" that has shed light on discovering new, sustainable and cost-effective treatment methods in the fight against cancer.

Being Held in Istanbul This Year

The Metabolism and Life Symposium will be organized on 3-5 June 2020 under the auspices of Sabri Ülker Foundation, with the participation of scientists from around the world specializing in metabolism, and organized by the Harvard Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, chaired by Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil. The Symposium will focus this year on resolving the molecular details of metabolic diseases and utilizing these findings in the treatment and prevention of metabolic diseases. The Symposium will also serve as a platform for young academics to meet international scientists and establish new networks.

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil Ranks Among 2019's Most Cited Researchers

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, Director of the Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, is listed among the most cited researchers of 2019 as determined by Web of Science. At the Center, scientific research is conducted to understand the mechanisms underlying chronic and metabolic diseases and to identify new therapeutic approaches to combat these greatest threats to public health worldwide. Supporting young researchers, the Center also provides opportunities for researchers to implement their work, collaborate and work with the world's most important scientists.
