Roche Increased Group Sales in 2019

Roche announces 2019 financial results Roche group sales grew 9% in 2019, reaching CHF 61.5 billion. Following strong demand for new medicines launched by the company, the Pharmaceuticals Division increased revenue by 11%, while the Diagnostics Division reported a 3% increase, primarily driven by immunodiagnostic solutions. The company, which succeeded in carrying its financial success from previous years to 2019 performance, increased group sales by 9% on a constant currency basis to CHF 61.5 billion. The Pharmaceuticals Division's sales rose 11% to CHF 48.5 billion, while the Diagnostics Division's sales increased 3% to CHF 12.9 billion. The company's strong performance throughout the year was led by oncology, MS and hemophilia in the pharmaceuticals division, and by immunodiagnostic solutions in the diagnostics division.

Progress in revitalizing our portfolio will impact the new era

Commenting on the group's 2019 results, Roche Group Chief Executive Officer Severin Schwan said: "As Roche, I can say we achieved highly successful operational results in 2019. I am pleased with the launch of two new treatment options in the oncology field and the approval of new indications for two other treatments, as well as the initiation of priority review for our new therapeutic solution in neurology. Looking at the progress we have made in revitalizing our portfolio, I can say that Roche is in the right position for growth in the upcoming period. We expect our revenue to show low to mid single-digit growth in 2020."

New acquisition in gene therapy

In 2019, Roche continued to pursue new collaboration agreements to further develop its personalized diagnostics and therapeutics strategy. With the completion of the acquisition process in December, Roche and Spark Therapeutics, Inc. (Spark Therapeutics) have signed a strong partnership in the field of gene therapy. With its gene therapy portfolio on which it continues research, Spark Therapeutics is focused on better understanding the human genome and genetic abnormalities. In this way, it aims to provide long-term effects that can bring positive change to the lives of patients fighting diseases for which no cure exists or where only palliative treatments are available.
