Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil ranked among Stanford University's top 10 most reputable scientists. Head of the Harvard Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, who leads the team that first produced 3D imaging of the molecular architecture of liver cells worldwide, has been ranked among Stanford University's top ten most reputable scientists. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, Director of the Harvard Sabri Ülker Metabolic Research Center, ranked 140th among scientists worldwide and 10th in his field in Stanford University's annual reputation rankings (THE World Reputation Rankings). Hotamışlıgil and his team, who made a world first by 3D imaging the molecular architecture of liver cells, added another achievement to their record by entering the top 10 in their field in this ranking. Team achieving world firsts

Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil and his team achieved a world first by imaging the three-dimensional molecular architecture of intact liver tissue using a focused ion beam scanning advanced electron microscope. The study, which provides high-resolution 3D imaging of the liver, enables tracking of the metabolic effects of structural differences within cells in disease states such as health conditions and obesity. Hotamışlıgil, who is also a member of the Sabri Ülker Foundation Science Board, conducted an in-depth examination in this study by combining imaging platforms such as focused ion beam scanning advanced electron microscopy (advanced FIB-SEM), artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, neural networks and numerous analytical tools, along with molecular, biochemical and physiological approaches.
"Metabolic diseases could be resolved in two weeks"
Prof. Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, whose research in immunometabolism, diabetes and obesity has earned him numerous international awards, noted that his team's latest work on metabolism has generated significant impact in the scientific world. Prof. Hotamışlıgil stated: "A study of this scale could only be possible through collaborations with experts from many disciplines, most importantly with Dr. Shan Xu and Dr. Harold Hess from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The very interesting functional results of the study involve the repair of structural changes in obesity and the experimental restoration of intracellular molecular organization, which revealed striking changes in metabolism. This repair of structure can normalize metabolic disorders in the liver within approximately two weeks; problems such as fatty liver, insulin resistance and excessive sugar production can be corrected by intervening only in the architectural structure. Thus, we have identified both a new control mechanism that regulates metabolism and adaptation, and an important problem that leads to disease."
