Polifarma Breaks Ground on New R&D Center

Polifarma held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new R&D Centre Building, which spans 11,000 m2 in the Ergene district of Tekirdağ, attended by Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk, Ergene District Governor Kadir Duman and provincial authority officials. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new R&D Centre, which will enable numerous projects and production activities, was also attended by Tekirdağ Provincial Health Director Dr. Ali Cengiz Kalkan, Provincial Industry and Technology Director Fahrettin Akçal and Çorlu State Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Doğan. Plans to Increase Drug Development Capacity with 300 Scientists The facility is planned to be completed and operational in the first months of 2024. Polifarma plans to increase its drug development capacity with 300 scientists at the new site, which will include a new production division for orphan drugs and other biotechnology-based pharmaceuticals where the company continues development processes as the first generic version in the world and is nearing completion, R&D laboratories, technical divisions, management offices and training and seminar areas. Orphan Drug and Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Production Will Take Place Here Polifarma Board Vice Chairman Ms. Vildan Kumrulu made remarks about the centre at the opening ceremony. Kumrulu stated: "Our R&D team will produce orphan drugs and biotechnology-based pharmaceuticals where development processes continue as the first generic version in the world and are nearing completion at this facility. The production area designed for the manufacture of this drug, which is supported by the Industry Ministry's qualified project support programme, the 'Hamle Programme', will be the first and only one in our country. With our Polifarma Academy project, a 2,200 m² training and symposium area has been designed where, in addition to preparing newly graduated students for the profession, training programmes will be organized to provide technical and career development for our current employees," he said. Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk also spoke at the opening ceremony. Soytürk said: "It is exciting to open a facility that will provide employment, but if that employment-providing facility is also an R&D Centre, it excites us even more. We are pleased and proud that products not manufactured in Turkey and currently imported will be produced here. I thank the Board Chairman, Vice Chairman and all the employees here," he said. Following his remarks, the groundbreaking ceremony was held as Polifarma Board Vice Chairman Vildan Kumrulu, Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk and Ergene District Governor Kadir Duman pressed the button.
