Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine booster dose found 95.6% effective NEW YORK (AA) – U.S. pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that the booster dose of its novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine is 95.6% effective against the virus. In a statement from the company, it was noted that phase 3 clinical trials of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine booster dose concluded that the vaccine was 95.6% effective regardless of age, gender, race and health status. The statement emphasized that in trials conducted on 10,000 people, subjects received either a 30-microgram booster dose or placebo an average of 11 months after the second dose. It was stated that 109 COVID-19 cases were observed in those who received placebo, while only 5 cases were observed in those who received the booster vaccine.

The statement also highlighted that the research results confirmed Pfizer's finding that the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine decreases over time.

Pfizer President Albert Bourla said in a statement, "These results demonstrate the benefit of booster vaccines in protecting people from this disease. We believe that in addition to ensuring access to vaccines for unvaccinated populations worldwide, booster vaccines also have an important role in combating this pandemic." The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved in September the administration of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine booster dose to people aged 65 and over and those working in at-risk positions.
