Novo Nordisk announced it will invest more than DKK 16 billion (EUR 2.1 billion) from 2023 onwards to expand its production facilities in Chartres, France. This major investment aims to expand production capacity for the company's current and future portfolio of products to combat serious chronic diseases. Novo Nordisk, a Denmark-based global healthcare company managed by the world's largest foundation and celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is planning a significant investment to substantially increase capacity at its production facility and add aseptic manufacturing and finished product processes, while also strengthening and expanding its existing Quality Control Laboratory. This investment will create dedicated capacity for GLP-1 products, enhancing Novo Nordisk's readiness to meet future innovative drug demand.
Novo Nordisk Chartres Production Vice President Lona Charlotte Larsen made the following statement on the matter:
"This major investment announced today underscores once again the strategic importance of our French production facility, which is one of the cornerstones of the growth we are experiencing as a company. We are increasing our capacity by maximizing our capabilities and effectively expanding our infrastructure." Novo Nordisk Vice President of Product Supply, Quality and IT Henrik Wulff stated, "Our continued investments in our production facilities worldwide reflect our belief in our current and future product portfolio and its importance for people living with serious chronic diseases." The new facility is designed as a multi-product facility capable of adapting to current and future processes. It will be constructed showcasing state-of-the-art technology and a modern working environment, focused on delivering the highest quality to patients globally in an effective and environmentally sustainable manner. The new investment, which will be built in phases from 2026 to 2028, will provide employment for 500 new personnel in the sector upon completion. During the construction phase, approximately 2,000 external personnel will be employed.
