Novartis Holds APPIS Summit

Novartis held the Collaboration and Partnerships for Patient Innovation and Solutions (APPIS) Summit, focused on removing access barriers for patients in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Co-created by the APPIS 2024 Council and held online by Novartis for the fourth time this year, the summit brought together key stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. At the two-day online summit held across the region with the aim of achieving better outcomes for patients, over 40 speakers from different countries participated, including healthcare professionals, patient leaders, public representatives and health journalists.

Turkish simultaneous interpretation support provided

The summit, which also offered simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese, featured key sessions including 'Unlocking Insights: Innovations in Real-World Data Use' (moderated by Julie Cini), 'Global Legacy Leader, Advocacy Beyond Borders and Neuroendocrine Cancer', and 'Lessons and Success in Patient Self-Advocacy' led by Australia CEO Meredith Cummins. The program consisted of live panel sessions, discussions and presentations focused on three main themes: health literacy, shaping health policies and future readiness.   Two speakers from Turkey also participated in the summit. In the session 'A Look at Wearable Technologies in Improving Cardiovascular Health', Işıl Özkan, Coordinator of International R&D Project Collaborations at Turkcell Technology, and Prof. Dr. Dilek Ural, Faculty Member of the Cardiology Department at Koç University School of Medicine, presented their work titled 'A Case Study on How Wearable Health Technologies Help Generate Important Patient Insights for Heart Health'. The APPIS platform, which brings together stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to identify important issues and prioritize actionable solutions, believes that this will lead to shared outcomes and enable action. Financed by Novartis, the APPIS platform includes components such as an annual regional APPIS Summit, the APPIS Innovator Program, an online 'Resource Centre' and 'APPISx', which addresses locally relevant health topics. Since 2021, APPIS has brought together more than 2,000 people, including patient organizations, public representatives, payers' representatives, physicians and academics, enabling knowledge sharing and establishing partnerships on patient innovation and solutions. Through programs and initiatives held throughout the year, APPIS aims to inform and inspire communities to address barriers to patient access and create collective action. Source
