Vocational High School Produces Cleaning and Cosmetic Products

Students from the Chemistry Technologies Department at Izmir Kemalpaşa Mopak Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, through the production of cleaning and cosmetic products, generated TRY 1 million in revenue. The school has occasionally struggled to meet the demand from public institutions for perfume, cleaning and cosmetic products due to high interest. Ufuk Akış, Head of Chemistry Technologies Department, stated: "Our graduates have business registration documents. Since we are located within an industrial zone, none of our students graduating from the chemistry technologies field remain unemployed." At the school, which has a workshop for the production of cleaning and cosmetic materials, 10th and 11th grade students work with their teachers to produce perfume, liquid hand soap, toilet cleaner, liquid laundry bleach and dish detergent, fabric softener, stain remover and other cleaning materials. In the workshop that resembles a factory, materials produced by high school chemists are mostly sold to public institutions in Izmir and surrounding areas. Targeting TRY 4 Million in Revenue This Year

Ufuk Akış, Head of Chemistry Technologies Department, noted that they initially conducted experiments on a sample basis at the school, and produced perfume by purchasing bottles and essences through the revolving fund mechanism. Akış explained that after purchasing essences as raw materials, they dissolved the essence in glycerin and ethyl alcohol, which have binding properties. He stated that they reduced 96 percent alcohol to 80 percent, added some distilled water, and then completed the process. Source: AA
