Lonza Selects Rockwell Automation
Lonza, which manufactures pharmaceutical capsules, has selected Rockwell Automation for the turnkey implementation of its strategic vision to bring digital factory capabilities to nine former Capsugel facilities.
The company, founded in Switzerland in 1897 and employing 15,500 people digitally, selected Rockwell Automation's PharmaSuite Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software to digitalize operations in production environments.
The solution is designed to prevent disruptions during high-volume periods of just-in-time orders, particularly for make-to-order production, and to facilitate entry into a new era of operational efficiency.
Rockwell Automation provides 10 life sciences companies with scalable digital transformation, industrial analytics and IoT solutions for fully automated, high-speed production environments.
The deployment of this software across nine facilities will provide 1,500 employees worldwide with operational technology-focused tools to achieve higher-level productivity and quality.
John Genovesi, Vice President of Enterprise Accounts and Software at Rockwell Automation, commented on the matter: "Digital transformation is bringing world-class operational efficiency, quality, process automation and workforce productivity to pharmaceutical companies globally.
We are proud to work with Lonza, which is advancing its products, operations and workforce toward their maximum potential through our software solutions."
Lonza will also use the FactoryTalk InnovationSuite software alongside the PharmaSuite MES software to better track individual product down to individual capsule cartons and to gain insights related to performance and production.
The separation of SAP and PharmaSuite MES will help avoid disruptions by strengthening workflows and gathering necessary information in the event of a global ERP failure or maintenance requirement.
