Positive Results from Domestic Drug Research Against Covid-19 Prof. Dr. Gürdal Yılmaz, Director of the Clinical Research Center at Karadeniz Teknik Üniversitesi (KTÜ), stated that they are working on a drug that is effective in reducing the transmission of novel coronavirus infection. Prof Dr. Gürdal Yılmaz stated: "A drug that combats the transmission of Covid-19 infection is currently being studied at the KTÜ Clinical Research Center and positive results are being observed." TRABZON (AA) - Prof. Dr. Yılmaz, Faculty Member of the Department of Infectious Diseases at KTÜ Farabi Hospital, issued a written statement. In his statement, Yılmaz noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many people worldwide and in Turkey. Yılmaz emphasized that vaccination is very important to protect against the pandemic and also conveyed the importance of hygiene, maintaining physical distance, and mask use in a timely manner. Noting that vaccination rates have still not reached desired levels, Yılmaz said: "Today, the need for a fourth dose vaccine is on the agenda. It is now known that in people who have developed immunity through vaccination or by contracting the disease, antibody levels begin to decline after the third month. For this reason, it is clear that repeated doses of vaccines are needed over a certain time period." He used these expressions.

Complaints of Drug Users Are Improving

Yılmaz said that no antiviral drug has yet been found for Covid-19 treatment, but clinical studies on this matter are ongoing. Stating that drugs expected to enter the approval process soon are available, Yılmaz said: "At the KTÜ Clinical Research Center, one of the important clinical research centers in our country, we currently have 4 drugs in Phase-3 stage. We observed that the complaints of patients using these drugs follow a milder course and resolve more quickly. We even had a patient who achieved PCR negativity in five days. We determined that in volunteers and hospitalized patients using these drugs, the need for oxygen support decreased and the length of hospital stay for these patients was shortened." He used these words. Yılmaz emphasized that Covid-19 infection spreads very rapidly and for this reason, combating the infection is difficult. Yılmaz said: "A drug that combats the transmission of Covid-19 infection is currently being studied at the KTÜ Clinical Research Center and positive results are being observed. We are giving this drug to Covid-19 patients that will prevent the disease from spreading to their households and we are monitoring the results. The fact that our people can access these drugs, which are likely to enter routine use in the near future, at an early stage is a great opportunity for our region's patients. Many of our volunteers using these drugs recovered in a very short time." He announced with these words that they are in a positive process regarding the drug.
