Cooperation to Be Established for Coronavirus Vaccine

China-based biotechnology company Clover Biopharmaceuticals, which focuses on innovative biological treatments, announced it has entered into a research collaboration with GSK to investigate a protein-based coronavirus vaccine candidate (COVID-19). Under this collaboration, GSK will combine its scientific and medical expertise with Clover's technology and biologics manufacturing capabilities. GSK, a leader in developing innovative vaccines using different adjuvant systems to enhance immune response, enables vaccines to provide longer-lasting and stronger immunity against infections through these systems. Thomas Breuer, Global Vaccines Medical Director at GSK, said the collaboration represents an important partnership for a promising vaccine candidate against coronavirus: "With Clover's technology, it is important to reduce the amount of vaccine protein required per dose, enabling the production of more vaccine doses and thus contributing to the protection of more people. We are proud to contribute to the research Clover is conducting." Joshua Liang, Chief Strategy Officer and Chairman of the Board at Clover, stated: "We are excited about using GSK's pandemic adjuvant system in our vaccine candidate produced with our Timer-Tag® technology. We will begin work rapidly to support global efforts aimed at combating coronavirus outbreaks occurring now and potentially in the future."
