Cologne Water Regains Popularity - Engin Tuncer
Engin Tuncer, Chairman of the Board of Eyüp Sabri Tuncer, which has led the cologne sector for 97 years, was a guest on MAG Editor Beril Çavuşoğlu's live broadcast. Tuncer said the company has added value to cologne's worth and noted that export rates have also increased.
Engin Tuncer said they have always emphasized the importance of cologne in hygiene, but that the importance of cologne was reaffirmed with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, and that the brand continues its work without slowing down. Noting that the marketing work they conducted in 1937 laid the foundations for today's Eyüp Sabri Tuncer brand, Tuncer said: "My grandfather Eyüp Sabri Tuncer ran campaigns to attract customers in that period. He made brochures and distributed them to mailboxes. He said that if you wrote down a name you liked, you would receive cologne as a gift, not that you had to make a purchase. Even today we give our products as gifts. People are very happy. Consider the year 1937."
Engin Tuncer said that after the corona pandemic, their retail stores in Ulus received 10,000 foot traffic in a single day: "Queues formed for meters on Anafartalar and Denizciler Street. We call this the rediscovery of cologne. Eyüp Sabri Tuncer is Turkey's brand. This is our shared value." Stating that they place importance not only on cologne but also on personal care products, Tuncer said: "We also have an antibacterial license. That will be released soon. We are also investing in disinfectant. We have turned our Ankara factory into a production hub. The products released are sent to warehouses for shipment immediately."
Cologne is effective against 36 viruses
Eyüp Sabri Tuncer, also mentioning the work they conducted with Yeditepe University, said: "As a result of our studies, we determined that cologne is effective against 36 viruses. Alcohol with 60 to 80 degrees has disinfectant properties. In this process, it can be chosen with peace of mind. Our lemon cologne has 80 degrees, and our famous products such as Bodrum mandarin, Cappadocia grape, and Ayvalık olive blossom have 70 degrees. We have made products to suit every taste. Our distribution throughout Turkey is very good. In foreign markets, Far Eastern countries are currently our export gateway. We are focusing on Chinese Hong Kong chains, Singapore, Marcus Island, Russia, the United States, and the Far East. China is currently buying cologne by airplane."
We have not raised prices and will not raise prices
Adding that they have not raised prices in this period and will not raise them, Tuncer said: "There is a price increase of nearly 200% in raw materials, but we have not raised prices. We struggled with raw materials, but the Ministry of Industry and alcohol factories increased their capacities. Intense two-shift production began. We did not run out of stock and did not leave the market without stock. When news about cologne started coming out on 11 March, we received nearly 18,000 cases of orders in 1 day, exceeding our capacity. We kept the website open but faced some challenges in shipments. We will continue to focus on online sales."
