TÜSEB–Sanofi Collaboration for Shared Expertise and Innovation in COPD Management

A Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Workshop was held in Ankara in cooperation with the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB) and Sanofi. The workshop addressed raising public awareness in COPD management, early diagnosis, disease prevention, the role of immunization, and sustainable healthcare models to counter the growing disease burden associated with the climate crisis.

A workshop on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) was held in Ankara through a collaboration between the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TUSEB) and Sanofi. The workshop addressed raising public awareness in COPD management, early diagnosis, disease prevention, the role of immunisation, and sustainable health models in response to the growing disease burden linked to the climate crisis.

The workshop, the first concrete step of the collaboration signed between Sanofi and TUSEB, took place at the TUSEB Aziz Sancar Research Centre under the title "Designing the Future Together in COPD Management".

The event brought together stakeholders from the Ministry of Health, pulmonary disease specialists, health economists, academics, patient associations, civil society organisations and the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Transformation areas in COPD management addressed
Within the scope of the workshop, transformation areas for COPD management were evaluated through a multi-stakeholder approach. Early diagnosis mechanisms, prevention strategies, patient monitoring, digital health technologies and data-driven management models were among the main topics.

Throughout the day's sessions, artificial intelligence-enabled health technologies, patient experience, effective use of health data, awareness gaps and sustainable health service models emerged as key focus areas.

The workshop process, conducted using an agile sprint approach, was completed by identifying priority solution areas in line with the objectives of the Turkey Chronic Airway Disease Prevention and Control Programme (2025–2030).

New call period for entrepreneurs
Following the workshop, it is planned to launch an open call process for health entrepreneurs to address the identified needs. Within this scope, innovative projects to be developed will be evaluated with the aim of providing solutions to unmet needs in COPD management.

COPD, a major public health issue in Turkey
COPD, which ranks third among the diseases causing the most deaths globally, is among the major public health problems in Turkey. While approximately 3 million people die from COPD worldwide each year, this figure is estimated to be around 30,000 in Turkey.

Experts point out that early diagnosis, access to treatment and raising public awareness play a critical role in reducing the disease burden in COPD management.

"Aiming for a sustainable health ecosystem"
The Sanofi and TUSEB collaboration aims to develop innovative solutions in the field of COPD, improve patient quality of life and strengthen the sustainable health ecosystem.
