Artificial Intelligence Technology in the Fight Against Cancer
Artificial Intelligence Technology in Cancer Treatment
ANKARA (AA) - AYBÜKE İNAL KAMACI - Artificial intelligence is expected to open doors to significant health advances by providing standardization in cancer diagnosis, treatment and monitoring, and to increase success in disease treatment.
Artificial intelligence technology, whose effects have been felt in almost every field in recent times, is aimed at making healthcare services fast, efficient and high-quality in the near future.
Medical experts expect success, particularly in combating cancer, through software containing all types of disease data and patient demographic information.
Prof. Dr. Fevzi Altuntaş, Founder Chairman of the Leukemia Patient Health, Education and Medical Research Association (LÖSEMA) and Faculty Member at Yıldırım Beyazıt University School of Medicine, who made statements to the AA correspondent, said that artificial intelligence can be used in many different areas of medicine.
Altuntaş, who identified that analytical machine learning has an important role in monitoring large medical data, said that this would help in better monitoring of patient history and current alternative treatments and follow-up examinations.
Prof. Dr. Altuntaş pointed out that artificial intelligence will have an important place in cancer treatment in the near future, stating that they have integrated artificial intelligence in the treatment of hematologic cancers at their centers, and aimed to achieve more successful results in diagnosis and treatment in this way.
Different Data Increases Performance
Prof. Dr. Altuntaş emphasized that this technology is still open to development and continued: "As information arrives, you need to upload it to the software and make progress in this way. Because you can teach the machine by entering data. For example; the more data you enter such as bone marrow, peripheral blood sample, radiological image, pathological findings, the more different data the machine sees, the more it performs accordingly and guides you. Here, we can benefit in many different dimensions, from telling the drug dose to be given to the patient to creating a cancer management scheme by looking at the patient's heart, kidney, liver and various functions."Opening Doors to a New Era
Altuntaş said: "Machine learning aims to standardize diagnosis, treatment and monitoring criteria and to minimize the human factor. We are also working to be ready in this area and to develop it. For example, we apply it in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring. When we enter the patient's findings, the machine offers us treatment options. Of course, we doctors still make that decision together with our patients. However, it standardizes this diagnosis, treatment and monitoring. In the near future, I think this will be no later than 2030, the doors to a new era in cancer management will open. This will reduce individual differences, errors, or minimize differences in perspectives. Even clinical research will now be conducted with artificial intelligence technology."Advertisement
