INVAMED Achieves Major Success

INVAMED Medical Innovation Institute has once again demonstrated Turkey's innovative capabilities in healthcare technology by producing a heart valve. With this development, Turkey will become the second country after the United States to be able to implant heart valves through a catheter-based minimally invasive surgical method. The domestically produced heart valve, obtained as a result of years of research and development work, will be a new ray of hope for patients suffering from severe aortic stenosis. The heart valve, which offers an ideal treatment option for patients at risk of open-heart surgery or unsuitable for such intervention, will enable patients to recover faster and enjoy better quality of life with shorter hospital stays.

'To be used in treating narrowing of the heart valve'

INVAMED Chairman Raşit Dinç stated that TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) is a treatment method developed especially for elderly patients and those with severe heart valve problems, and will be used to treat narrowing of the heart valve. Noting that producing a heart valve is a significant achievement, Dinç commented, 'We believe that this success will strengthen Turkey's confidence in research and development activities in the field of medical technologies and inspire further international achievements. As INVAMED, we will continue to produce innovative solutions for improving human health, particularly heart health.' Dinç noted that aortic stenosis is a condition that makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood from a large artery to the body, and stated, 'The traditional treatment method is open-heart surgery in which the valve is replaced. However, this carries major risks, especially for elderly patients and those with other health conditions. The TAVI method, on the other hand, allows a new valve to be placed in the heart through a special tube inserted through a small opening in the body, without making a large incision. During this procedure, the heart is not stopped and the patient is generally discharged from the hospital within a few days. The advantages of TAVI are: shorter hospital stay, faster recovery and the absence of open-heart surgery risks.' Raşit Dinç concluded his remarks as follows: 'For high-risk patients in particular, TAVI can offer better outcomes compared to open-heart surgery. However, every treatment method has potential risks and side effects, which is why detailed discussions with doctors are critical in making this decision. The applicability and success of TAVI can vary from patient to patient.
