Major Meeting Held for the Pharmaceutical Sector

First pharmaceutical-sector meeting held at Kocaeli University. Leading figures from the pharmaceutical industry attended Kocaeli University and the Provincial Directorate of Industry and Technology jointly organized a pharmaceutical sector meeting. The meeting was held at the Senate Hall of Kocaeli University's Umuttepe Campus and was organized in cooperation with Kocaeli University, the Provincial Directorate of Industry and Technology, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (TÜBİTAK MAM), Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, and KÜ Technology Transfer Office. Attending the meeting were Kocaeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Sadettin Hülagü, Provincial Director of Industry and Technology İlhan Aydın, TÜBİTAK MAM Chairman Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan, Kocaeli University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ercüment Çiftçi and Prof. Dr. Nilgün Fığlalı, academics, and pharmaceutical sector representatives.

"We have achieved important progress"

Kocaeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Sadettin Hülagü, delivering the opening remarks, stated: "This meeting will make significant contributions to research and development and will serve new partnerships. In various forums and meetings, Kocaeli University's ultimate goal is to become a research university and to contribute to our country's R&D. In such a meeting with established expertise and experience in scientific research in Turkey, I want to underscore this point once again. Since taking office, we have achieved important progress in organizing our university's physical conditions, working environments, and spaces that will provide opportunities for our researchers."

"We are ready to lead"

Prof. Dr. Hülagü noted that infrastructure requirements have been largely addressed as of today: "The time has come to achieve qualified vertical growth. Particularly in the fields of Medicine and Engineering, our already strong human resources have been improved further, and technical capabilities and capacities have been increased. In this context, our university is ready and willing to take the role of R&D leader in our city, which is closely integrated with industry. While the existence, preparation, and operationalization of research centers is undoubtedly a very important process, for research centers to achieve their true objectives, they must meet with the right stakeholders."

"Contributing to our economic strength"

It is a great source of satisfaction to see important stakeholders gather at today's meeting, and it is also an indication that we are on the right track in R&D. Because the new university model is no longer just an educational institution; it has become a structure that actively participates in research and development activities and continuously maintains and strengthens its relationships with stakeholders in industry. I believe that today's meeting will bring together our university's vision of being a leader in research and development with the leading stakeholders of our industry, thereby contributing to our country's industry, our university's research potential, and our state's economic strength."

"Our infrastructure is in place"

TÜBİTAK MAM Chairman Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan spoke about TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center's areas of work: "We have over a thousand researchers, nearly 50 percent of whom hold the title of 'doctor.' MAM is our state's research center—your research center. We have nearly complete infrastructure. At MAM, we have work on plant products, biological and chemical agents, and biomaterials. Our infrastructure is sound, but we need our colleagues who work and generate ideas. We are open to using our infrastructure for new ideas."   Source
