Important Move from the Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Union

Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association Takes Significant Step The Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association (İEİS), which continues its efforts to position Turkish pharmaceutical industry as a strong, independent, global pharmaceutical manufacturer and exporter with its current 56 members, has become a member of the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). Following an invitation from the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), İEİS's membership application was accepted recently. In this context, İEİS, together with the Ministry of Health, has become Turkey's representative at the USP. Founded in 1820, USP conducts work to ensure the quality of medicines worldwide and stands out as a scientific organization that establishes standards for manufactured medicines, food and food supplements. Drug standards defined by USP are implemented by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and these standards are used in over 100 countries. USP represents over 40 countries with 468 members. Among its members are public and private sector institutions as well as academics from numerous countries including those in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa. USP conducts work in collaboration with its members worldwide to support the protection of public health. İEİS General Secretary Savaş Malkoç, making a statement regarding the Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association, a pioneering and long-established sector organization of the Turkish pharmaceutical industry with 56 national and multinational members, becoming a USP member, stated: "The benefits that the localization vision has provided to the development of our Turkish pharmaceutical industry and our country's economy cannot be denied. As the Turkish pharmaceutical industry, with our production that meets global standards, we have undertaken and continue to undertake important work both to protect public health and to develop our country's economy. We are conducting important work with the goal of increasing our R&D competence in the pharmaceutical industry and positioning our industry as a global pharmaceutical manufacturer and exporter producing higher value-added products, especially in the biotechnology field. In this context, we find our membership in the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention, an international organization, extremely important. We have taken an important step towards our new achievements that will be carried from local to global level with this membership. We are very pleased about this step that will advance the Turkish pharmaceutical industry even further," he said.
