Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association Held Ordinary General Assembly Meeting The Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association (İEİS) convened for its Ordinary General Assembly. At the first Board of Directors Meeting held following the General Assembly, Nezih Barut, who has served as İEİS Board Chairman since 2008, was re-elected as Chairman. Ali Arpacıoğlu was appointed as Vice Chairman. In his speech at the General Assembly Meeting, Nezih Barut addressed the work implemented by İEİS, the pioneering organization of the pharmaceutical industry that worked with great dedication to ensure the country was not left without medicines during the Covid-19 pandemic, and raised important issues concerning the sector. Nezih Barut, one of the leading names in the pharmaceutical sector, was elected for the fifth time as Board Chairman following the Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association (İEİS). Ali Arpacıoğlu was re-elected as Board Vice Chairman. Expressing his great pleasure at meeting with members at the General Assembly Meeting, which was postponed due to measures taken due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Nezih Barut stated: "I extend my thanks to all our members who, despite these difficult conditions, did not refrain from investing, creating employment, producing and exporting, and who stood by our industry, as well as to our industry and our Association for their contributions and support to us."

Met with government officials

Underlining that as İEİS, from the beginning of 2020, despite the difficult conditions of the pandemic process, they conducted intensive meeting traffic with public authorities in Ankara and undertook joint initiatives to resolve problems in the sector, Nezih Barut stated: "As the Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association, we met with our Vice President Fuat Oktay, all relevant Ministers, Vice Ministers, policy councils attached to the Presidency, the Social Security Institution, the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency and all relevant government officials. We presented the problems in areas directly related to our sector such as pricing, licensing, reimbursement, localization and incentives, along with our solution proposals."

Applications pending at licensing stage

Emphasizing that very serious and critical problems have been experienced for a long time in medicine licensing processes, Barut continued his remarks as follows: "Due to these problems, we have many applications pending at the licensing stage. These bottlenecks hinder the development of our industry in areas such as investment, production, employment and exports, create additional burdens on public finances, and constitute an obstacle to our population's access to medicine diversity. We continue our discussions with authorities to resolve the problems we experience in licensing processes and to urgently complete necessary legislative regulations."
