'Targeted Oncology Patient Innovation Awards'
Applications have opened for the 'Targeted Oncology Patient Innovation Awards,' which Bayer is holding for the third time this year.
• The 2023 awards program will focus on pediatric cancer and will award two grant prizes of USD 50,000 each to encourage innovation and collaborations aimed at improving access to targeted oncology treatment and combating inequities faced by pediatric cancer patients worldwide.
• The program will accept applications from any type of non-profit organization, including patient organizations/associations and healthcare institutions, to the extent permitted under local regulations.
Over the past two years, more than 50 applications were submitted for projects designed to promote innovation and facilitate access to targeted oncology diagnostics and treatments, guide care and treatment, and improve outcomes.
The company's award program, conducted to contribute to cancer research globally, focuses on encouraging innovation and collaborations aimed at improving targeted oncology treatment and combating inequity faced by pediatric cancer patients worldwide.
The 2023 program will award two grant prizes of USD 50,000 each. This year's grants will be offered in two categories: non-profit patient organizations and non-profit healthcare organizations.
Eligible organizations from around the world may apply by 16 June 2023.
The grants will support innovative programs focused on improving access to biomarker testing, sometimes referred to as genomic testing, in pediatric cancers where the likelihood of genomic alterations is higher and patients face significant unmet medical needs.
Additionally, in addition to encouraging programs implemented through collaborations, support will be provided for the expansion of existing programs. Applications will be evaluated by an evaluation panel independent of Bayer, comprising representatives with experience from clinical and patient groups.
Bayer, which plays an important role in developing treatment options and patient programs in the targeted oncology field, continues its efforts to support the global cancer community.
Biomarker cancer testing is used to detect special genomic disorders or alterations within cancer cells that determine how the tumor behaves and why it grows. This information helps doctors recommend treatments approved for the specific identified disorder or in clinical trial.
Genomic alteration types may include mutations such as KRAS, BRAF, EGFR, gene fusions such as ROS1, NTRK, FGFR and RET, and more.
