GSK Announces New Name: Haleon
GSK Consumer Health, which comprises distinctive brands such as Sensodyne, Centrum, Otrivin, and Voltaren, will complete its separation from GSK Pharmaceuticals in mid-2022 and continue as an independent company.
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced that its Consumer Health business unit will separate from the company in mid-2022 under the new name Haleon.
Haleon draws its inspiration from the combination of Hale, an Old English word meaning "health," and Leon, which relates to "power." The new brand identity of the company, which will be positioned in more than 100 markets worldwide, was developed based on insights gathered from employees, healthcare professionals, and consumers.
Haleon's origin story extends back to a series of successful investments and strategic changes undertaken by GSK Consumer Health over the past 8 years, including the integration of consumer health product portfolios from Novartis and Pfizer. The company will continue as a highly valued global consumer health-focused business generating approximately GBP 10 billion in annual sales.
As an independent company, Haleon will place people and sustainable wellbeing at its core, providing solutions for people's daily needs through innovative products developed with its deep heritage and science-based approach. Haleon will work with the motivation and mission to create a healthier future in all markets where it operates, including Turkey, and will continue to add value to people's lives.
Haleon will have a world-class product portfolio comprising the brands Sensodyne, Centrum, Otrivin, and Voltaren. These brands reach millions of healthcare professionals, consumers, and people worldwide with the objective of improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. Growing interest in health and personal care, rising expectations of an aging global population, and evolving consumer needs are creating strong demand of GBP 150 billion in the consumer health sector. This demand supports Haleon's commitment to increasing its positive impact on human health and sustainably growing its categories in the years ahead.
Haleon CEO Brian McNamara: "Introducing Haleon to the world is the first step in our journey as a new and independent company. The foundation of our name is based on our purpose to deliver better every day for human health and our ambition to be a global leader in consumer health. We aim to introduce the Haleon brand to all markets by mid-2022 and are proceeding with confidence. We look forward to informing investors and analysts with more information on this matter during our Capital Markets Day event at the end of February."
GSK CEO Emma Walmsley stated: "Haleon is coming to life through years of dedicated work by many valued people aimed at building this unique structure devoted entirely to human health. With strong growth expectations and significant potential to improve human health and wellbeing globally, Haleon will unlock important value for GSK shareholders through this independence journey."
The new name was announced today at a global event held for GSK Consumer Health employees. Employees from around the world had the opportunity to interact with the new name and brand identity aimed at bringing the company's vision and growth targets to life.
