Benefits of Regular Walking Regular walking is known to have positive effects on physical and mental health. Research shows that brisk walking for 30-45 minutes, five days a week, has a significant impact on combating excess weight. Walking, which promotes blood circulation in the body, also reduces risks related to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Additionally, it lowers daily stress levels and can delay the aging process. Uz. Dr. Ayşe Yener Güçlü from the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department at Memorial Antalya Hastanesi provided information on the importance of regular walking.

Benefits of Walking for the Human Body

  1. Walking regularly for 30 minutes each day primarily benefits mental health. Psychological problems can be managed more easily. It has positive effects on memory and retention, and studies have demonstrated benefits related to Alzheimer's disease.
  2. Walking reduces symptoms of depression and provides vitality.
  3. Walking corrects posture and mobility and strengthens the spine.
  4. When walking is done regularly, the risks of heart disease decrease and blood pressure regulation becomes easier. Additionally, blood circulation is regulated. Women who walk at least three times a week have shown a reduction in their heart disease risk rate.
  5. Walking improves mobility, strengthens bones and reduces fracture risk. Walking for 30 minutes daily reduces joint pain, muscle stiffness and inflammation.
  6. Walking increases oxygen circulation in the lungs and ensures better functioning of the lungs and respiratory tract.
  7. Walking has been found to be more beneficial than running in regulating blood sugar.
  8. Regular walking improves the digestive system. It helps with constipation and reduces the frequency of digestive system diseases.
  9. Walking works large muscle groups and thus enables rapid fat burning.
  10. Although it varies from person to person, an average of 300 calories can be burned during a moderate-paced walk per hour.
