Tips for Having a Child
Recommendations for Parenthood
Dr. Assoc. Prof. Şefik Gökçe from the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Yeni Yüzyıl Üniversitesi Gaziosmanpaşa Hastanesi provided information about methods for becoming pregnant.
Methods for becoming pregnant include various strategies that couples can use when planning to have children or considering pregnancy. These methods can help couples make optimal use of their fertile period. Here are some methods for becoming pregnant:
● Regular Sexual Intercourse: The most basic method for becoming pregnant is to have regular sexual intercourse. Having intercourse during the woman's ovulation period can increase the chances of pregnancy.
● Ovulation Tracking: Women can use methods such as ovulation tests or basal body temperature tracking to determine their ovulation. This can help identify the most fertile time.
● Cervical Mucus Monitoring: Cervical mucus can change during ovulation. Monitoring these changes can increase the chances of pregnancy.
● Ovulation Induction: For women experiencing ovulation problems, it may be possible to regulate ovulation using hormonal treatments or medications.
● In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): IVF, also known as test tube fertilization, involves bringing sperm and egg together in a laboratory environment for fertilization. The embryo is then transferred to the uterus.
● Using Donor Sperm or Donor Egg: Couples experiencing problems with sperm or egg production may consider using donor sperm or donor eggs; however, this procedure is not yet legal in our country.
● Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): IUI involves a procedure where sperm is placed directly into the uterus. This can facilitate sperm transport and increase the chances of pregnancy.
● Increasing Egg Reserve: Women can use certain medications to increase or preserve their egg reserve; however, there is unfortunately no method to increase egg reserve.
● Healthy Lifestyle Changes: Quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, losing weight, exercising regularly and not consuming excessive alcohol are healthy lifestyle factors that can increase fertility.
Every couple's fertility status is different, and the best method for becoming pregnant depends on the couple's specific situation. Couples having difficulty becoming pregnant should first consult a gynecologist and obstetrician. Specialists can evaluate the couple's fertility and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan.

The best time to become pregnant is the woman's ovulation period. Ovulation refers to the period when the woman's egg matures and is released into the fallopian tubes, becoming ready for fertilization. The ovulation period generally corresponds to the middle of the menstrual cycle. Women's menstrual cycles can vary in length, so the ovulation period may differ from person to person; however, for women with a typical 28-day menstrual cycle, ovulation generally occurs around day 14 of the cycle. Having intercourse during this period can increase the chances of pregnancy. To determine the ovulation period more precisely, you can use one or several of the following methods:
● Ovulation Tests: Ovulation tests measure LH (luteinizing hormone) levels in urine and show that ovulation occurs on days when LH rises. ● Basal Body Temperature (BBT) Tracking: You can determine your ovulation period by measuring your body temperature at the same time each morning. Body temperature increases after ovulation. ● Cervical Mucus Monitoring: Cervical mucus changes during ovulation. Monitoring these changes can increase your chances of pregnancy. ● Ovulation Calculation Tools: Ovulation calculation tools available on the internet calculate the estimated ovulation date by taking your menstrual cycle into account. ● Doctor's Examination: A gynecologist or reproductive endocrinologist can use more professional methods such as ultrasound or blood tests to determine your ovulation period more precisely. Having intercourse during the ovulation period increases the chances of pregnancy; however, it does not always guarantee pregnancy. For women over 35 years of age, if you cannot become pregnant despite regular intercourse for 6 months, or for women under 35 years of age, for 1 year, or if you have concerns, it is important to seek help from a specialist. How Many Days After Menstruation Should Intercourse Occur to Become Pregnant?
The number of days after menstruation when intercourse should occur to become pregnant can vary depending on the length and regularity of the woman's menstrual cycle. Women's menstrual cycles can vary in length, so it is difficult to give a general rule. Generally, women are more likely to become pregnant during the ovulation period. Ovulation refers to the period when the woman's egg matures and is ready to travel to the fallopian tubes, and fertilization can occur during this period. For those with a 28-day menstrual period, the ovulation period corresponds to the middle of the menstrual cycle. If the woman's menstrual cycle is regular, ovulation generally occurs on day 14 in a typical 28-day cycle. Therefore, for a woman with a 28-day menstrual cycle, having intercourse between days 12 and 16 from the first day of menstruation can increase the chances of pregnancy. For women with irregular or different-length menstrual cycles, estimating the ovulation period can be more complex. Therefore, methods such as ovulation tests, basal body temperature tracking or cervical mucus monitoring can be used to determine the ovulation period more precisely. If you have any specific questions or concerns about becoming pregnant, it is best to consult a gynecologist and obstetrician. Remember that every woman is different and the fertility process can vary from person to person.Advertisement
