Berko İlaç Opens Third Phase of Production Facilities

Turkey's leading pharmaceutical company Berko İlaç cut the ribbon for the third phase of its production facility. With this phase coming into operation, it is aimed to accelerate localization steps in the pharmaceutical sector. The Ministry of Industry and Technology-approved Research and Development Center within the facility will make significant contributions to the national pharmaceutical initiative. The opening ceremony of the third phase of Berko İlaç Production Facilities, located in Istanbul Sultanbeyli, was attended by Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, Member of the Presidential Health and Food Policies Board and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of İVEK Foundation, Dr. Mustafa Kuruca, Former Deputy Chairman of the Social Security Institution and Member of the Board of Trustees of İVEK Foundation, Ecz. Mehmet Domaç, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of İVEK Foundation, Cengiz Celayir, Chairman of the Turkish Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, Dr. Hakkı Gürsöz, President of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, and Metin Kubilay, District Governor of Sultanbeyli, among other prominent figures.

Support Must Be Given to Our Domestic Pharmaceutical Industry

Ecz. Berat Beran, Chairman of the Board of Management of Berko İlaç, stating that domestic pharmaceutical industry must be strengthened for Turkey's pharmaceutical sector to advance, said: "I sell products to many countries in the world through my own efforts; I export to the United States, Canada and Hong Kong, but this is not enough; Turkish pharmaceutical industry must now establish factories in countries around the world and in destinations like Africa."

We Have a Pharmaceutical Industry to Be Proud of Today

Stating that domestic industry in Turkey has received strong valuations since 1980, Beran said: "Our domestic industry truly invested that money in the sector. Today we have a pharmaceutical industry to be proud of. For this reason, our government should approach the industry with special consideration. They should realize this, they should see this. In my life, I have done nothing and invested in nothing other than pharmaceuticals. Whatever I have, I have these three buildings. I have no life and lifestyle according to my own income level. Today here with me are my childhood friends, my closest friends, and the apprentices and son who fought with me in my pharmacy since the beginning. They are my closest friends. They know best what I have gone through, and they tell me: 'Berat Bey, you finally made it', I made it, I made it, but there is still a long road ahead before me to succeed."

Products Manufactured at the Facility Will Be Exported to the Global Market

Dr. Hakkı Gürsöz, President of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, stating that the newly opened facility will make a meaningful contribution to pharmaceutical production capacity in Turkey, said: "With the products manufactured here, the share of domestically produced pharmaceutical products in our country will increase further. We hope that an important step will be taken in terms of exports. Products manufactured at the facility will be exported to the global market. This company operates with an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit... I believe that many new products will come to life here and will be presented for the benefit of our people. This factory, which is an important investment both for Turkey and for the company, should be auspicious and fortunate for all of us from now on." With the third phase of the facility becoming operational, Berko İlaç has reached an annual production capacity of 82 million boxes. Berko İlaç, a strong player in the Turkish pharmaceutical market, exports to 14 countries, primarily the United States and Canada, with the vision of becoming a global brand. With this newly operational phase, it is aimed to increase production, employment and exports.
