Bayer Rated "A" in Climate Category
Rating agency CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) has rated Bayer at the highest level of "A" in the climate category, naming it one of the leading international companies.
Bayer Board Chairman Werner Baumann: "As a leading innovation company, we will further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain."
CDP, which examines how more than eight thousand companies strategically address the challenges posed by climate change, rated only 2 percent of these companies (179 companies) at A level.
Corporate investors are increasingly raising their expectations for companies to pursue sustainability-focused strategies, and they consider CDP ratings important in investment decisions.
Bayer AG Board Chairman Werner Baumann: "We have received excellent ratings from CDP since 2005 and are pleased to be on the Climate A List once again.
As a leading innovation company, we aim to make our internal operations carbon neutral by 2030. To this end, we will further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain," he said. CDP CEO Paul Simpson stated: "I congratulate the companies that have made it onto CDP's A List by leading in environmental protection performance and transparency. The risks posed by climate emergency, deforestation and water insecurity to companies are matched by tremendous opportunities in addressing these issues. It is clear that the private sector must play a vital role at this critical time. Companies on the A List are demonstrating leadership in corporate sustainability; they are combating environmental risks and working to succeed in the global economy of the future." Protecting the environment and taking measures against climate change have been among Bayer's high-priority objectives for many years. Matthias Berninger, Head of Public Affairs and Sustainability at Bayer, commented: "We are significantly stepping up our efforts in line with the Paris climate agreement." CDP is a non-profit organization that compiles corporate data on climate-related topics each year to create the world's most comprehensive public database and issues ratings by evaluating this data. According to the organization's own data, 525 institutional investors with assets valued at USD 96 trillion support CDP and take the organization's ratings into account in their investment decisions. In addition to investors specializing in environmental, social and governance performance of companies, these ratings are increasingly attracting the interest of large, mainstream investors.Advertisement
