Global biopharmaceutical company Allergan, operating in over 100 countries with a growth-focused new industry model, expanded its manufacturing facility in Westport, Ireland, and added a new biologics facility called "Biologics 2" to the campus. With the investment, the Westport campus has become the largest manufacturing center in the company's global network, while Allergan's investment in Ireland exceeded EUR 750 million. The facility expansion will continue production of flagship products while also placing emphasis on innovative work. Allergan, which has taken strong steps in Turkey with its innovative products bridging health and beauty, expanded its manufacturing facility in Westport, Ireland. The new biologics facility called "Biologics 2," brought to life with an investment of EUR 160 million added to the campus, has become a strategic global hub for Allergan's flagship products. With the opening of the facility, the company's total investments in the region have exceeded EUR 750 million.
While production continues at the newly opened "Biologics 2" facility, the goal is to focus on next-generation biologics innovation through new microbiology and cell-based laboratories where world-standard research and development work can be conducted.
Michael Ring, Minister of Rural and Community Development of Ireland, who attended the official opening of the new facility of Allergan, which pioneers the pharmaceutical industry with an "Open R&D" approach aiming to identify and develop the most innovative treatments for patients with 13 R&D units and 15 manufacturing facilities worldwide, said: "Allergan's continued expansion is a testament to the confidence in Westport. Allergan is an excellent employer and we are pleased to see it further strengthening its presence in Westport." According to research conducted by EY-DKM Economic Consulting, an independent economic evaluation firm, in 2019, Allergan contributed EUR 23 million to Ireland's 2019 GDP and EUR 7 million to treasury revenues through capital investments of EUR 160 million made in Ireland over the past three years. Starting its journey from therapeutic products it developed, combining science, technology and aesthetics, Allergan has reached a leading position in the medical aesthetics field with a broad product portfolio that meets patients' unique needs and plans to contribute to product innovations that will maintain this position in the global pharmaceutical sector through the Westport campus. Beyond the value it places on innovation, Allergan believes that strategies that can be developed in the medical aesthetics field are possible through education-focused physician communication and contributes to the sector's development by providing one-on-one training to thousands of physicians through the Allergan Medical Institute platform.

"Allergan takes a step into a new era in innovation"

Wayne Swanton, Executive Vice President of Allergan Global Operations, said in his remarks at the event: "With the opening of the Biologics 2 facility, Allergan takes a step into a new era in growth and innovation for biologics products. The manufacturing process of biologics requires a level of precision unlike any other product. Transportation through the entire supply chain globally after production truly demands unique and highest-level precision. This journey begins with a team of more than 1,500 skilled employees at this facility in Ireland. Therefore, this facility holds extremely great importance in our global presence." Paul Coffey, Executive Vice President of Allergan Global Manufacturing Eye Health and Biologics Products and Director of Allergan Westport Facility, said: "This investment supports Allergan's commitment to advancement in the biologics field. With this addition to our existing biologics facility, we will meet the continuous demand for our flagship products and with our new microbiology and cell-based laboratories, we will conduct innovative work that will make a difference in the lives of patients around the world. As the Westport campus, we look forward with excitement to contributing to product innovations that will maintain our leading position in the global pharmaceutical sector."
