More Than 200 Physicians from 30 Countries Discuss Single Port Robotic Surgery in Istanbul

At an international "Memorial Reshapes: Robotic Surgery with Single Port" conference held in Istanbul, more than 200 physicians from over 30 countries convened to evaluate robotic surgical applications performed through a single incision.
The conference addressed single-port robotic surgery, remote surgery (telesurgery), imaging integration and artificial intelligence-assisted new surgical systems from all perspectives.
The future of robotic surgery debated in Istanbul
Sessions organized across a broad range of specialties—from urology to gynecology, general surgery to thoracic surgery—discussed the impact of single-incision procedures on patient comfort, recovery time and surgical outcomes.
The conference also addressed remote surgery applications and the future role of artificial intelligence-assisted surgical systems.
"Participation from 30 countries, we established the first system in Turkey"
Bora Uludüz, CEO of Memorial Health Group, commented on the significance of the conference as follows:
"We are holding this event with 200 participants from approximately 30 countries. We are sharing the Single Port Robotic Surgery system that we have established for the first time in Turkey and the operations performed with this technology. The ability to perform surgery through a single incision means less pain and faster recovery for patients."
Uludüz also noted that several firsts have been achieved in different specialties, and that the first applications in Europe in thoracic surgery have been performed.
"Lung surgery can be performed through a 3-centimetre incision"
Prof. Dr. Çağatay Saim Tezel from the Thoracic Surgery Department at Memorial Şişli Hospital stated that surgery is undergoing a significant transformation with new technologies:
"Now lung and tumour operations can be performed through 3–3.5 centimetre incisions. Patients are discharged much faster, and pain levels are markedly reduced."
"Robotic surgery is now the gold standard"
Prof. Dr. Murat Binbay from the Urology Department noted that robotic surgery has become standard in urology, using the following words:
"Single-port robotic surgery represents the most advanced stage of this development. It enables patients to recover in a shorter time and experience less pain. In the near future, remote surgery applications will also become routine."
"Major cancer operations possible through a single incision"
Prof. Dr. Erman Aytaç from the General Surgery Department stated that the method provides a significant contribution to minimally invasive surgery:
"Major cancer operations can be performed through a single 2–2.5 centimetre incision. While this method increases patient comfort, it also reduces the risk of complications."
"Surgery without incisions becoming possible in gynecology"
Dr. Gökhan Demirayak from the Gynecological Oncology Department emphasized that single-port technology has brought about a significant transformation in gynecology:
"Many operations can be performed through a single incision, and some procedures can even be performed without any abdominal incisions. Patients can be discharged the next day and return to their daily lives quickly."
