2018 Interior Architecture and Decoration Trends

Research shows we are spending more time at home than in previous years. Perhaps due to the growing variety of activities technology offers each day—computer games, TV series and films—we are reluctant to leave the warm and intimate environment of our homes. For this reason, it is fair to say we will place even greater emphasis on our homes in the coming years. On the other hand, increasing construction supply, expanding interior spaces, and decoration spending have diversified and increased new trends. So what trends will play a role in these homes we share with our loved ones in 2018? Let's examine together... According to interior designers, 2017 was a year in which pastel tones were frequently preferred in both furniture, textiles and wall colors, with soft tones of natural reflections given prominence. These minimal, soft and Scandinavian reflections appear set to continue their popularity in 2018. Only this time they will take shape in much bolder materials and textures.

What is Motto?

In 2017, a year in which "typo" typefaces were processed on walls as paper, on pillows as texture, and on objects artistically, it appears 2018 will be influenced by the same motivation. Let your home tell your character, your message, your outlook on life to your friends before you do—through "motto". This style, increasingly used in decoration as handwriting, will remain indispensable for souls wishing to display their clear stance toward life.

I Cannot Give Up Icons

Jacqueline Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn have been used in decoration throughout every period, especially in pop-art style. However, this year they will reveal themselves more subtly, to attentive souls. In minimal, understated style, bold yet modest decoration will be like the perfume these three elegant ladies have absorbed into decor. Scandinavian-style drywall panels, wooden trims, and pastel walls will support the understated atmosphere, while an iconic design—a bergère, a decorative object in Salvador Dalí style—will allow you to express the wild child within you.

Return to the Future

Matte and pastel tones certainly did not make us forget we are in 2018. This will be a year in which metallic reflections will be used together with these tones. Metallic grey, metallic pink, metallic green, metallic yellows will this year create a bold perspective of pastel tones through integrated panels, particularly on interior wall surfaces.

Fire, Air, Water, Wood!

We loved organic forms transformed from nature without human touch this year. Woods, with the life veins of the tree still visible and texture intact, have been brought into spaces frequently. Raw wood forms, especially used in dining tables, TV units and bed headboards, armchair legs, wall rafters, side tables and even kitchen cabinets, will spread like decoration viruses. These materials, which could be called "heirloom," will be adapted to spaces with matte finishes, while cast materials will support Scandinavian style.

Do It Yourself!

When refreshing your decoration this year, do not visit just one place: "Do it yourself!" material building centers and haberdashery shops. You heard right; now is the time to transform the hand-embroidered lace and knittings—treasured by our grandmothers—into placemats, baskets and cushions. Do not fear color abundance, inconsistent bindings, broken forms. This is the main point of the trend. It should look handmade!

Color of the Year: Ultraviolet

2017 was a year in which green color was featured as a trend color in decoration. This year "ultraviolet" was declared the color of the year. Bright ultraviolet expresses the idea of originality, creativity and vision. You can already paint one wall in your home this color and decorate it with metallic frames. Rest assured, you will be a trend leader among your friends.

You're the Boss

2018 will be a year in which leather details appear abundantly. Leather, the complement to elegant and masculine souls, will be frequently preferred beyond furniture, on wall surfaces and panel coverings, and will take on eye-catching appearances with different stitch details. "Terrazzo tile," a material rarely encountered in decoration due to both its labor-intensive production and high cost, will rise in 2018 and will support the leather decoration trend along with quartz material and ceramic products.
