Yeditepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingöl signed the statement of the Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) consortium, established to ensure food security on university campuses. According to a statement from Yeditepe University, with the signature initiated by the gastronomy and culinary arts department, Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingöl became the first and only rector from Turkey to sign the statement that was signed by 133 university rectors from 5 continents. The Hunger Solutions Institute, Association of Public, Land-grant Universities (APLU)—which aims to find solutions to hunger at local and global scales—and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized a forum in 2014 to establish a common platform for ensuring food security in universities and to develop a roadmap for possible actions in this area. At the end of this meeting, which was attended by 70 leaders from 30 universities in Canada, the United States and Latin America, a statement was signed that 'confirmed that combating hunger on campus and ensuring food security would be a primary priority in universities and that rectors would work together for this purpose'. Since that time, the number of signatories has increased to 133 with the participation of rectors from many successful universities around the world, including California Polytechnic, Ohio, Colorado State Universities, California, London, Cornell and Miami Universities. Yeditepe University, which has been a member of the Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) initiative since 2019, will produce solutions for combating campus hunger and ensuring food security under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingöl through the signed statement. In this context, Yeditepe University will take steps to develop food security solution proposals for campuses throughout Turkey through collaborations with both public institutions and the private sector. Students will also play an active role in these efforts.   Source
