International Product Safety Symposium to Take Place on 26-27 May 2021
The Ministry of Commerce, as the beneficiary of a joint EU and Turkey-funded 'Technical Support Project for Raising Awareness in Product Safety, Market Surveillance and Control and Conformity Assessment Areas', will host the 'International Product Safety Symposium' on 26-27 May 2021. The symposium will focus on the latest developments in quality infrastructure in Turkey and the European Union, and will address changes in product safety legislation that directly affect both manufacturers and consumers.
This international symposium, which will also cover market surveillance and control in e-commerce, the role of consumer associations in product safety, sustainable product policies and standardization, developments in accreditation and conformity assessment, will be open to participation by economic operators such as manufacturers, importers and distributors, as well as public institutions, conformity assessment bodies and consumer association representatives.
At the opening of the symposium on 26 May 2021, Wednesday morning, Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of the Central Finance and Procurement Unit Dr. Hakan Ertürk and Director General of Product Safety, Market Surveillance and Control of the Ministry of Commerce Veysel Parlak will speak.
Following the opening speeches, Turkish and foreign experts will share in detail with participants the latest developments in product safety in Turkey and Europe during the symposium.
In the first session of the symposium, 'Innovations Brought by the Product Safety and Technical Regulations Law and Sub-Regulations' will be addressed. The second session will be titled 'Innovations in EU Legislation / Regulation EU 2019/1020: Market Surveillance and Control; Product Conformity'. The third session of the first day of the symposium will be 'E-MSC: A New Inspection System and EU Practices A New Area in Market Surveillance and Control', the fourth session 'The Role of Consumer Organizations in Product Safety in the EU and Turkey', the fifth session '2020 MSC Data in Turkey' and the final session 'Risk Assessment in MSC'.
Second Day's Agenda
In the first session of the symposium's second day, a panel on 'Quality Infrastructure in Turkey and the EU' will be held. The second session of the day will be titled 'Recent developments in accreditation'. This will be followed by sessions under the heading 'New Trends in EU Product Safety Regulation' including 'Medical Device Regulation-EU MDR 2017/745', 'European Green Deal and New EU Trade Policy', 'Ecodesign and Energy Labelling'. Project Team Leader İdat Erdener of the Technical Support Project for Raising Awareness in Product Safety, Market Surveillance and Control and Conformity Assessment Areas will present the project's outcomes at the end of the symposium, and the symposium will conclude with closing remarks by Director General of Product Safety, Market Surveillance and Control of the Ministry of Commerce Veysel Parlak.Advertisement
