"Our Sustainability Efforts Are Gaining Recognition Internationally"
Ülker CEO Mete Buyurgan, noting that Ülker is one of 20 global companies in the food products category on the list, stated: "The Corporate Sustainability Assessment - The Sustainability Yearbook list is one of the most respected sustainability efforts globally. In this study, which lists the world's best-performing companies in environmental, social and governance performance, we are the only Turkish company representing our country among the top 12 global companies by score in the food products category. Since our establishment, we have been operating with our 'zero-waste company' model, and our projects are gaining recognition on international platforms. We operate with an understanding that centers growth and strengthening together with society and our stakeholders. In our company, we develop projects in line with our targets, including water and energy savings, waste reduction, food preservation, human resources, sustainable raw material sourcing and production quality. The successful results we achieve each year are an indicator of how valuable the steps we are taking for sustainability are.""We Have Been Growing Without Increasing Carbon Emissions Since 2014"
Noting that Ülker is leading the food sector in sustainability, Buyurgan listed example applications implemented as follows: "We produce our products in respect for the environment, ecosystem and people. We succeeded in achieving our 30 percent water reduction target per unit of production, which we set out to reach in 2024, in 2018. In 2021, we exceeded our target and reached a reduction rate of 38.4 percent. Since 2014, we have saved water equivalent to the daily consumption of 2.7 million people. In order to prevent losses at the source, we produce at the target quality on the first attempt, achieving a rate of converting 99 percent of raw materials into finished products. With this rate, we are among the best in the food sector globally. Since 2014, we have been growing without increasing carbon emissions. We have made significant progress in each of our sustainability targets in recent years. Climate change, food preservation, sustainable raw material sourcing and water risks will be priority areas for us going forward," he said.Advertisement
