Turkey's Flour Exports Expected to Rise
Turkey Expected to Increase Flour Exports Speaking at a press conference held at the closing of the 17th International Congress and Exhibition organized by TUSAF in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tezcan said that Turkey is one of the world's leading countries in the milling sector.
Emphasizing that farmers in Turkey need to continue receiving support for sustainable production, Tezcan reported that the importance of production has become better understood worldwide as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. Drawing attention to the fact that logistics sector disruptions caused by the war have affected the entire world, Tezcan stated: "We were very fortunate that production continued in Turkey. We did not leave our society without bread."
Most Flour Exports Go to Iraq
Pointing out that Turkey is the world's flour export champion, Tezcan said: "Achieving these exports is not always easy. Sometimes you cannot find the product. In the most difficult times, we source the product from around the world and deliver it as flour to tables worldwide. To the countries we export to, we deliver the best-priced and highest-quality flour. Turkish flour is recognized as a brand." Tezcan provided information that Iraq is the country receiving the most flour exports, noting that although attempts are being made to establish flour mills in that country, they cannot reach the quality of Turkish flour. Recalling that Turkey set a record last year with approximately USD 1.5 billion in flour exports, Tezcan noted: "Turkey annually exports around 3 million tonnes of flour. Looking at the three-month flour export figures for this year, they are at nearly the same level as last year. We expect some increase in flour exports this year compared to last year. Logistics timeframes are working in our favor, and we believe we will have price advantages. As long as there are no major changes in current conditions, our flour exports will continue to increase." Tezcan also stated that many wheat seed varieties are produced in the country and that simplification could be pursued in this area.
