Turkey's leading integrated chicken meat producer Şenpiliç was among the main sponsors of the 2nd Turkey Food Microbiology Congress, organized in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) and Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ), aimed at supporting current scientific developments in food microbiology, one of the most critical elements of food safety and quality.
Şenpiliç, Turkey's leading integrated poultry producer, was among the main sponsors of Turkey's 2nd Food Microbiology Congress, organized in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) and Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ), to support current scientific developments in food microbiology, one of the most critical aspects of food safety and quality.
Şenpiliç, aiming to strengthen university-industry cooperation and emphasize the role of science in sector sustainability, contributed to this important gathering that will shape the sector's future.
Congress brought together all sector stakeholders at ITÜ
The Congress, held at ITÜ Maslak Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Centre, took place with keen participation from academics, sector professionals, researchers and students. The event addressed innovations in food microbiology and solution-oriented approaches.
"The sector itself is a sustainability model"
Speaking in the "Risks and Opportunities in the Food Sector" session, Şenpiliç Assistant General Manager responsible for Sales Faik Üçer drew attention to sustainability as the sector's most important opportunity and offered the following assessment:
"We are converting plant protein into higher-value animal protein at maximum efficiency in a very short time. We are conducting this transformation through a traceable process from feed to final consumer. Additionally, we operate an integration model based on zero-waste philosophy. Parts not suitable for human consumption are recovered and returned to the economy through the domestic animal industry, fish feed, fertiliser, biogas and cosmetics sectors. In this way, we are reducing foreign dependency and contributing to our country's food supply security. Turkey ranks 8th in world poultry meat production today. Our sector plays a critical role with its high capacity and sustainability-focused structure."
"We operate with a farm-to-table food safety strategy"
Şenpiliç Quality and Assurance Director Savaş Ceylanlı, speaking in the "Practices for Ensuring Food Safety in the Sector and Future Expectations" session, shared the following information on food safety applications:
"For us, food safety is based on a strategy extending from farm to table. Our facilities are constructed according to hygienic design principles and our food safety management systems are built on prerequisite programmes such as disinfection, training and personnel hygiene. We conduct more than 300,000 laboratory tests per year to verify the measures taken. Additionally, we closely monitor new technologies and approaches that directly impact food safety in the sector and integrate them into our processes."
