pladis Targets Doubling Balanced Nutrition Product Growth by 2030

pladis, the global snacking company operating under Yıldız Holding, has launched its new pladis Global Nutrition Model, which will guide product development, reformulation and marketing processes. In line with this approach, which draws on international nutrition assessment systems as a reference, the company aims to double the sales volume of its products that contain lower sugar, salt and saturated fat and are rich in fiber and protein by 2030.

pladis, a global snacking company operating under the Yıldız Holding umbrella, has launched a new pladis Global Nutrition Model to guide product development, reformulation and marketing processes. Based on international nutrition assessment systems, the company targets doubling the sales volume of its products containing lower sugar, salt and saturated fat, and rich in fibre and protein by 2030.

pladis, the global snacking company housing the Ülker, McVitie's and GODIVA brands, continues to respond to consumers' expectations for balanced nutrition and healthy living with innovative products. In this context, the company has developed the pladis Global Nutrition Model to guide product development, recipe improvement (reformulation) and marketing strategies.

The model, developed by the company's scientists, was designed based on internationally recognized nutrition assessment systems such as France's Nutri-Score, Australia's Health Star Rating and the United Kingdom's Nutrient Profile Model (HFSS).

Within the scope of the model, pladis aims to increase nutrients such as fibre and protein across its entire product portfolio whose consumption is encouraged; while reducing sugar, salt and saturated fat ratios. The company commits to doubling the sales volume of products that contribute to more balanced nutrition, which currently represent approximately 10 per cent of global sales, by 2030. In line with this target, existing products will be reformulated without compromising taste, new product development efforts will be accelerated, and successful product lines will be brought to consumers in more markets.

This commitment stands out as one of the important steps taken by pladis under its recently announced global sustainability strategy Happy People, Happy Planet.

"We will offer more options without compromising on taste"
Dr. Jennifer Moss, Head of Research and Development at pladis, made the following remarks regarding the new nutrition model:

"Taste will continue to be our priority in the products that consumers enjoy and choose. The only thing changing is that consumers now demand more options suited to their lifestyles and wellness goals. People do not want to give up the taste they are accustomed to while seeking more balanced alternatives. We believe that brands capable of meeting both expectations simultaneously will be more successful in the future. For this reason, we are committed to offering consumers more options while preserving the taste our brands deliver."

Reformulation efforts continue unabated
pladis, with approximately 16,000 employees and bringing its products to consumers in more than 110 countries, has a new commitment that represents a continuation of the company's long-standing product development and reformulation work.

In this context, pladis removed a total of 676 tonnes of sugar (equivalent to 169 million teaspoons) from product recipes in the United Kingdom. In the Netherlands, Sultana fruit biscuit recipes were reformulated by reducing sugar and salt ratios while increasing fibre content.

In Turkey, Ülker offers consumers more nutritious and functional snacking alternatives through its Go Ahead product family, which includes high-fibre dried fruit and fruit bars with sugar from fruit, as well as protein bars.

The company has also been conducting reformulation work aimed at reducing sugar, salt and fat ratios in its product portfolio for many years. Under these efforts, a total reduction of 5,706 tonnes of sugar, 28 tonnes of salt and 549 tonnes of fat has been achieved in its products over the past 10 years.
