As health-conscious consumption habits spread, kombucha continues its global growth in the functional beverage category. Seoul-based Teazen is targeting expansion in the Turkish market.
The rise of health-focused consumption habits is accelerating growth in the functional food and beverage market. As demand increases for products that stand out for their nutritional content and functional properties, kombucha—noted for its probiotic content and fermented structure—ranks among rising categories worldwide.
Teazen, a brand representing South Korea's healthy lifestyle culture, aims to contribute to the development of wellness-focused consumption habits in Turkey as well.
Functional beverage market continues to expand
In recent years, consumers are moving beyond taste-focused products toward alternatives with higher nutritional value that fit into daily life routines. This shift is cited as a key factor supporting the global growth of the functional food and beverage market.
The kombucha market stands out as one of the prominent areas of this transformation. According to sector data, the global kombucha market reached approximately USD 4.8 billion in 2025 and is expected to continue growing in the coming years.
South Korea, one of the leading markets in healthy living and functional products, saw its functional food market reach approximately USD 4.1 billion in 2024.
Korean wellness approach focuses on daily living habits
Korea's wellness philosophy offers a holistic approach that encompasses not only healthy eating but also sustainable living habits. Kombucha products developed according to this philosophy bring together traditional fermented tea culture with modern consumer expectations.
Hande Akbaş Bilici, K-Land Marketing Director, noted that in Korea, healthy living is viewed as a natural part of daily life, and consumers now prefer products that not only deliver taste but also fit their lifestyles and offer differentiated content.
Bilici said Teazen aims to combine Korea's traditional fermented tea culture with modern technology to provide consumers with a different experience.
Interest in functional beverages growing in Turkey
Kombucha sets itself apart from traditional teas and sugary soft drinks through its fermented structure, varied flavor options, and position in the functional beverage category. Growing interest in gut health, balanced nutrition, and conscious consumption are among the key factors supporting category growth.
Hande Akbaş Bilici, noting that interest in functional beverages is increasing in Turkey alongside the strengthening of the healthy living trend, stated that young consumers in particular are more open to next-generation products they can easily incorporate into their daily lives.
Bilici noted that Teazen aims to bring Korean wellness philosophy to broader audiences in Turkey and contribute to the spread of kombucha culture.
As the functional beverage market is expected to continue expanding in the period ahead, it is anticipated that products combining traditional production methods with modern living habits—such as kombucha—will gain further ground in the sector.
