Nestlé Opens Its First Enteral Nutrition Products Plant

Nestlé's First Enteral Nutrition Products Plant As one of the first global investors in the history of the Turkish Republic, Nestlé has achieved another first in Turkey. Under the Nestlé Health Science umbrella, it opened Turkey's first enteral nutrition products plant in Karacabey, Bursa, with the participation of Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci, and Head of the Presidential Investment Office Burak Dağlıoğlu. Nestlé Health Science production facility, which was inaugurated on Saturday, 2 July in Karacabey, Bursa and is Nestlé's fifth plant in Turkey, was established with an investment of TRY 433 million as part of the localization strategy in the healthcare industry. Nestlé, one of the first global industrial investors in the history of the Turkish Republic, opened its fifth plant in Karacabey, Bursa. The plant, which began production under Nestlé Health Science, a business unit of Switzerland-based Nestlé, is also Turkey's first enteral nutrition plant. The opening ceremony of the production facility in Karacabey, Bursa, which was held on Saturday, 2 July and represents a significant step in the localization strategy within the healthcare industry, took place with the participation of Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci, Head of the Presidential Investment Office Burak Dağlıoğlu, and numerous ministry representatives. The event, hosted by Nestlé Turkey CEO Leszek Wacirz and Nestlé Health Science Turkey General Manager Hanzade Yaz, with the global Nestlé Health Science Management Team in attendance, was also joined by many distinguished guests. By combining its more than 150 years of experience in nutrition with scientific expertise, Nestlé Health Science, which operates in the field of nutrition in healthcare, has made another significant investment by opening Turkey's first enteral nutrition plant for domestic and national production. "We will transfer Nestlé's global experience and scientific research power to Turkey" Nestlé Turkey CEO Leszek Wacirz, who delivered the opening remarks, noted that Nestlé has been operating in 186 different countries around the world for over 150 years and in Turkey for 116 years, stating that they prioritize activities that will benefit individuals and families, communities and the planet through the understanding of "Creating Shared Value." Noting that they have recently directed their R&D capacity towards domestic production in Turkey and focused on localization in their long-term business strategies, Wacirz said, "We prioritize investments where we can produce using local raw materials through steps that will transfer Nestlé's global experience and scientific research power to Turkey. In this context, we are very pleased to open Turkey's first enteral nutrition plant brought to Turkey by Nestlé Health Science, one of Nestlé's most dynamic business units globally."

"We will produce 63 percent of Nestlé Health Science Turkey's enteral nutrition products in Turkey"

Speaking at the ceremony, Nestlé Health Science Turkey General Manager Hanzade Yaz announced that Nestlé Health Science began work on localizing its products under the "Localization Action Plan in Healthcare Industries" of the Ministry of Health within the framework of the 10th Development Plan two years ago. Stating that as the first step in localization they introduced enteral nutrition products produced by a contract manufacturer in Balıkesir to the market in March 2021, becoming the first company to localize in this field in Turkey, Yaz said, "Our plant at Nestlé's Karacabey production facility in Bursa is of great importance as the first plant specially built for the enteral nutrition field to produce domestically in Turkey. The Nestlé Health Science plant, which is now operational and has introduced its first products to patients and health professionals, has an annual production capacity of 9,000 tons. With the capacity increase to be realized next year, the facility will reach twice the production volume. The investment we made in our plant, which came to life with incentives provided by the Ministry of Industry and Technology in 2020, reached TRY 433 million. At our plant, where we put our first approved products into the service of doctors and patients in May 2022, 29 enteral nutrition products from 8 different product groups will be produced next year. In this way, 63 percent of Nestlé Health Science Turkey's enteral nutrition product production will be carried out in Turkey. Our plant, with its superior technology and strong infrastructure, is a candidate to become Nestlé Health Science's product development center," he said.

Our Karacabey plant was designed in compliance with zero waste framework

In line with Nestlé's "Net Zero by 2050" commitment, the Nestlé Health Science Karacabey plant, designed in accordance with sustainability targets, will operate with zero waste and carbon emissions reduction goals in all its processes. At the Nestlé Health Science Karacabey plant, where solar energy panels have been installed, a large portion of energy use will be obtained from solar energy.
