Nestlé Rolls Out New Plan
Nestlé Launches New Initiative
Nestlé has launched a new plan under the "Generation Regeneration" framework to support the transition to a regenerative food system for the planet's future. The company aims to go beyond sustainability.
As part of a comprehensive plan, the company will invest CHF 1.2 billion over the next five years. It aims to protect and restore the environment, improve farmers' livelihoods and increase their well-being.
Operating in 186 countries worldwide, Nestlé will provide global support under the "Generation Regeneration" framework for the development of regenerative agricultural practices at the center of the food system. In this scope, the company will work together with all stakeholders in the food system, including more than 500,000 farmers and 150,000 supplier companies. It will launch new programs to facilitate the transition to a regenerative food system from social and economic perspectives.
New Livelihood Income Programs for Farmers
Nestlé will invest CHF 1.2 billion over the next five years to help farmers adopt innovative practices and revitalize regenerative agriculture in the supply chain. During this period, the company will support farmers in three main areas. With substantial R&D capabilities and a farmer network, Nestlé will first provide technical assistance to farmers by applying current science and latest technological methods. Additionally, the company will make joint investments with farmers to cover new costs during the transition to regenerative agriculture, and will help farmers obtain credit for various agricultural equipment. Third, it will offer premium prices for numerous raw materials produced using regenerative agricultural practices and will make larger-scale purchases for these materials. Meanwhile, Nestlé will implement new livelihood income programs for farmers in the value chain to make farming more attractive. Planning to create a new training platform in November to support young people passionate about farming, attract and train a new generation of farmers, Nestlé will focus on renewable farming practices and increasing farms' climate change resilience for more than 40,000 farmers participating in one of its agricultural entrepreneurship programs.Going Beyond Sustainability
Zeynep Sungu, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Nestlé Turkey, noting that Nestlé is among the first companies to sign on to the United Nations' '1.5°C Target for Business' commitment, stated: "We prioritize projects that create Shared Value for individuals and families, communities and our planet with the goal of creating a sustainable future. In line with our commitment to reach 'Net Zero' emissions by 2050, we are among the first companies to sign the United Nations' '1.5°C Target for Business' commitment. In 2020, we were among the first institutions to prepare a time-bound action plan in the fight against climate change. Today, we are adding a new dimension to our 'Net Zero' journey and consolidating our efforts under the 'Generation Regeneration' framework to go beyond sustainability. We are not only looking to improve our planet and reduce our impact, but seeking new ways to give back what we take from the planet. We will continue to develop our flagship project in Turkey, 'Our Pistachios Abound,' which we have been running for 10 years in cooperation with TEMA Foundation, in line with our Generation Regeneration targets. We are committed to increasing the productivity gains we have achieved in pistachio production from 149 percent and the number of farmers we have improved the well-being of from 210,000 to much higher levels," she said.Advertisement
