Linden Contributes to the Economy

According to the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), linden contributes approximately TRY 5 million annually to forest villagers and around TRY 30 million to the national economy.

In a written statement from OGM, it was noted that linden, which is particularly beneficial for colds and coughs, also provides significant economic gains. The statement indicated that work is underway to promote the cultivation of linden, one of the medicinal and aromatic plants, and that of the 950,000 linden seedlings produced in 2021, 750,000 were planted. It was stated: "Linden production, a plant that is absent from hardly any household especially during winter, is heavily concentrated in the Marmara and Black Sea regions. Linden cultivation is carried out in Yalova, Bursa, Tekirdağ, Sakarya, Istanbul, Karabük, Balıkesir, Artvin, Zonguldak, Kocaeli, Düzce, Çanakkale, Bartın and Samsun in Turkey. Bursa Karacabey in particular stands out with its linden forests. According to OGM data, which conducts inventory and planning studies to support linden production, as of the end of 2020, Turkey's forests contain 385 tons of usable linden in an area of 22,000 hectares. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) data, as of the end of 2020, 167 tons of linden were exported to 39 different countries, primarily Argentina, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Germany, the United States and Poland, generating USD 1,470,261 in foreign exchange.
