Sustainable Support for the Future of Food
Ediz Haksal, General Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Turkey, noted that "World Food Day," celebrated on 16 October under the leadership of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization each year, brings food security concerns to the global agenda, and emphasized that the company continues its operations with this awareness through sustainable, environmentally respectful and nature-protecting production principles.
"World Food Day," celebrated on 16 October—the founding date of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)—aims this year to draw attention to food insecurity and malnutrition problems with the theme "Leave No One Behind."
According to the FAO's "Food Outlook Report," global food import expenditure is expected to rise significantly this year due to high prices and shipping costs.
With this increase, new measures will be needed to prevent food security risks in low-income countries most dependent on food imports. Taking a pioneering role in delivering sustainable nutrition to the food industry, Herbalife Nutrition continues its work with the goal of contributing to future population nutrition habits in line with World Food Day's theme.
Emphasizing that food security issues are expected to gain even more attention, Herbalife Nutrition Turkey General Manager Ediz Haksal stated: "According to the 'Food Outlook Report' published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) this year, the global food import bill is on track to reach a new record of USD 1.8 trillion this year. The report, which forecasts that many vulnerable countries will pay more and receive less food, notes that all these developments are concerning from a food security perspective. As Herbalife Nutrition, with this awareness, we adopt a sustainable, environmentally respectful and nature-protecting production approach."
Noting that they believe plant-based proteins such as soy and peas will play a critical role in feeding the world's growing population sustainably, Ediz Haksal continued: "The United Nations forecasts that to meet the food needs of the world population in 2050, global food production needs to increase by an estimated 70 percent.
While the need for a robust and effective food industry is greater than ever, changing individual lifestyles also raise the need for diversity. We continue to contribute to this area with plant-based protein products we produce at Herbalife. Additionally, in 2019 we launched the 'Nutrition for Zero Hunger' program aimed at creating resources to combat hunger across continents, ensuring access to healthy food and finding solutions to the rising obesity problem. This program aims to facilitate access to nutritious food, provide better education on nutrition, identify sustainable food sources and draw attention to the global crisis."
