Food poisoning, characterized by stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea, can develop due to consumption of spoiled foods or incorrect cooking methods. Dyt. Ayris Gürsili, a specialist from DoktorTakvimi.com, shared the causes of food poisoning and preventive measures that can be taken. Food poisoning resulting from consumption of spoiled foods manifests itself with diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. Dyt. Ayris Gürsili, a specialist from DoktorTakvimi.com, who draws attention to the importance of early intervention in food poisoning, which is especially common on hot days, states that this way, adverse effects that could be experienced can be prevented and a faster recovery can be achieved. Dyt. Gürsili emphasizes that in cases where food poisoning caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and organisms entering the digestive system is more severe, a health institution must definitely be consulted.
Dyt. Gürsili explained how diagnosis is made in cases of food poisoning as follows:
"The communication between the patient and the doctor here allows the doctor to make a diagnosis easily. Before the patient comes to the hospital, they share the foods they consumed with the physician. The patient accelerates the diagnostic process by expressing their symptoms and how long they have been experiencing these symptoms to the doctor. The doctor observes signs of poisoning through physical examination. If poisoning has occurred due to toxins, it will be revealed through tests. Your doctor may request blood and stool tests or parasite examination from you. As a result of all these tests and examinations, the correct treatment method is applied."
Dyt. Gürsili explained misconceptions about food poisoning as follows:
"There is a misconception that spoiled food can be easily recognized because it smells and looks bad. However, not all spoiled food looks or smells bad. Because bacteria are invisible to the eye and this situation can cause food poisoning. In addition, some people think that undercooked eggs are both more delicious and healthier. However, even if it tastes delicious to you, for eggs not to cause poisoning, both the white and the yolk must be thoroughly cooked. Another misconception similar to this is the idea that partially cooking meat and then continuing to cook it on a grill is healthy. However, cooking meat this way can cause bacteria to multiply rapidly and subsequently lead to poisoning." Dyt. Ayris Gürsili recommends thoroughly washing fruits with water and a brush, and soaking vegetables in a container of water and ensuring they are thoroughly cleaned before consumption to prevent food poisoning. Gürsili also reminds that the same kitchen tools and equipment should be used for meals prepared at the same time, stating, "For example, it is not correct to cut a different food on a cutting board where raw meat was cut without washing it properly. Kitchen tools and equipment must be thoroughly cleaned after each operation."
