Food Sector Represented by 109 Companies on ISO 500 List
Food sector ranks among top 500 with 109 companies, employing 134,000 of approximately 717,000 workers.
The food sector stamped its mark on Turkey's list of largest 500 industrial enterprises with 109 companies. According to the results of the Turkey's 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises 2020 Research prepared by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO), the top 500 companies are distributed across 23 sectors. In the research, the sector with the most companies was food products manufacturing with 109 firms. Food was followed by primary metal industry with 66 companies, textile with 41 enterprises, and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers sector with 41 companies. The number of companies engaged in chemical and chemical product manufacturing was 33, while 31 enterprises from electrical equipment manufacturing entered the list. Electrical equipment companies were followed by 24 enterprises in other non-metallic mineral products, 21 companies in rubber and plastic products, 19 firms in fabricated metal product manufacturing (excluding machinery and equipment), 15 companies in paper and paper products, 14 enterprises in machinery and equipment manufacturing not classified elsewhere, and 13 each in clothing and apparel manufacturing and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and distribution sectors. Ten companies from the mining and quarrying sector, 7 each from pharmaceutical product and pharmaceutical material manufacturing and wood, wood product and cork product manufacturing (excluding furniture) sectors, 6 each from other transport equipment manufacturing, computer, electronic and optical product manufacturing and beverage manufacturing entered the list. Among the top 500 enterprises, jewelry, bijouterie and related product manufacturing had 5 companies, coke and refined petroleum products and furniture sectors had 4 each, and tobacco product manufacturing had 3 companies.Food companies in the top 500 employ 134,000 people
The 500 companies included in Turkey's 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises 2020 Research employed 716,962 salaried workers. Among these enterprises, the food sector, leading with 109 companies, employs 18.72% of total workers. The number of employees at food companies in the top 500 reached 134,279. From the sectors represented in the top 500, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers manufacturing employed 104,427 workers, textile manufacturing 71,965, primary metal industry 62,282, and electrical equipment sector 54,980 workers. Chemical and chemical product manufacturing employed 29,696 workers, other non-metallic mineral product manufacturing 29,685, clothing and apparel manufacturing 27,448, rubber and plastic product manufacturing 27,312, fabricated metal product manufacturing 25,507, computer, electronic and optical product manufacturing 21,281, and mining and quarrying 20,989 workers. Among sectors with more than 10,000 employees in the top 500 were machinery and equipment manufacturing not classified elsewhere with 18,579 workers, other transport equipment manufacturing with 15,748, pharmaceutical product and pharmaceutical material manufacturing with 11,744, paper and paper product manufacturing with 11,408, and furniture sector with 10,392 workers.
