Cargill Receives Another 'Reliable Supplier' Certificate
Cargill Receives Another 'Trusted Supplier' Certification
Cargill's facility in Bursa Orhangazi, which operates to world standards, has received a 'Trusted Supplier' certification under the Supply Chain Trust Program.
Cargill strengthened its solid position in food safety, logistics and storage by undergoing inspections conducted by organizations with internationally accredited inspection credentials and strong inspector teams.
Following Cargill's Turyağ Oil Production Facility in Balıkesir, the Corn Processing Facility in Bursa Orhangazi also qualified for the 'Trusted Supplier' certification by passing inspections conducted by authorized organizations with internationally accredited inspection credentials and strong inspector teams under the Supply Chain Trust Program.
The Supply Chain Trust Program was launched in May 2021 with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and backed by 12 civil society organizations including the Out-of-Home Consumption Suppliers Association and the Food Safety Association.
The 'Trusted Supplier' certification is granted under the program, on a voluntary basis, to producers and suppliers meeting world standards in food safety, logistics and storage.
Our goal is to make Orhangazi an export hub for industrial starch
Rıza Özkaya, Board Member responsible for Cargill Food Turkey, Middle East, Africa and India Operations, stated that the Orhangazi Corn Processing Facility's receipt of the 'Trusted Supplier' certification following the Turyağ Oil Production Facility in Balıkesir is a concrete indicator of the quality and trust principles they always prioritize. Özkaya continued: "We have invested over USD 200 million in our facility in Bursa Orhangazi, which operates to world standards. Here we produce starch, corn fiber, industrial starch and sweeteners entirely from the natural corn plant. We supply the industrial starch we produce using domestic sources in Turkey to numerous sectors, primarily paper, corrugated cardboard, textiles and construction, with binding and adhesive functions. Today we export industrial starch to 20 countries including Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. Besides our goal of making Orhangazi an export hub for industrial starch, our sustainability-focused work continues here as one of the world's most innovative food companies. We supply producers with healthy, high-nutritional-value, sugar-reducing, plant-based innovative food products."We operate with high environmental consciousness and sensitivity
Özkaya also noted that the Orhangazi facility has the most advanced wastewater treatment unit in the region, and concluded his remarks as follows: "As Cargill, we operate with high environmental consciousness and sensitivity in all regions where we conduct business. As a result of our continuous improvement efforts conducted with independent organizations, we achieved a reduction of up to one-third in our facility's annual water consumption over the past 10 years. Within the framework of our sustainability commitments, we continue our investments and work to reduce water consumption and our carbon footprint. We use a wastewater treatment system above world standards. Thanks to its environmental features, our facility has received numerous awards to date including the BUSİAD Environmental Award, the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry EVET (Energy Efficient Industrial Facility) Award, the Bursa Provincial Agriculture Directorate White Plate Award, the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association Low Carbon Hero Award, and the ITU Carbon Heroes Award."Advertisement
