Balparmak Beekeeping Academy Receives Award Balparmak, which implements sustainable projects for the future of honey, bees and beekeeping, won the award in the "Social Impact-Human Centered" category with Balparmak Beekeeping Academy at this year's 9th Sustainable Business Awards. The winners of the Sustainable Business Awards, held annually by the Sustainability Academy and recognizing exemplary leading institutions of the new economy with a sustainable future goal in Turkey, were announced at a ceremony held on 18 October. The finalist projects were selected following a rigorous evaluation process by a 51-member jury panel across 15 categories, with 35 projects deemed worthy of awards. Balparmak, which implements sustainable projects for the future of honey, bees and beekeeping, was awarded for Balparmak Beekeeping Academy among the 24 finalist projects in the "Social Impact-Human Centered" category at the Sustainable Business Awards. Balparmak's Balparmak Beekeeping Academy, established in 2018 in Ula district of Muğla with the contributions of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ERDB), aims to contribute to the sustainability of the beekeeping profession, bring women and youth from rural development regions into the sector, and support increased production of high-value bee products such as royal jelly, pollen and propolis alongside honey. Expert academics at the Academy provide training on the most fundamental topics ensuring quality production in the beekeeping profession and making it sustainable, including bee life and biology, colony care and management, bee diseases, queen bee production, bee product production, beekeeping equipment, regulations, and nectar-producing plants. Concurrent with classroom training, mobile educational vehicles provide training on the practical demonstration of honey and high-value bee product production, while also updating the knowledge of existing beekeepers. Through distance learning provided via the Balparmak Beekeeping Academy website, anyone interested has the opportunity to access basic knowledge on beekeeping at any time.
