The delicious flower okra, called 'quarter gold' by locals because of its yellow flower color and enduring monetary value, has gained fame beyond regional boundaries. Amasya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Murat Kırlangıç stated, "We have filed an application for European Union geographical indication registration for Amasya Flower Okra and have initiated our registration process." Flower okra, cultivated most abundantly in Taşova district, is harvested along with its flowers early in the morning throughout summer by producers. The tiny okra pods are then strung individually on thread using a needle and left to dry. Okra is marketed fresh and dried across the country.

Turkey's EU geographical indication products number rises to 8

Noting that Turkey's number of EU geographical indication products has risen to 8 with the registration of Giresun's distinctive round hazelnut by the European Union, Murat Kırlangıç stated, "After the completion of the registration procedures for Amasya flower okra, I believe we will experience the joy of having one of the EU geographical indication products, which are few in number throughout the country." Kırlangıç explained that protecting products through registration is an important step for cities' brand value, and that they place great importance on promoting local products of the city on national and international platforms. "Geographical indication contributes not only to the protection of our country's national and cultural values but also to economic development, increased export revenues, as well as support for rural development and women's employment," he stated.

We will increase our geographical indication count to 33

As a result of work conducted for over a year in the historic city declared a brand city by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, geographical indication registration has been granted for Amasya meat flower okra dish, Amasya toyga soup, Amasya bean dolma, Amasya flatbread, Amasya eggplant pehli dish, and spiral Amasya flatbread. Amasya Governor Mustafa Masatl stated, "God willing, within 2022 we will register 23 more of our products, increasing our geographical indication count to 33."
