Akkim Achieves a First in the Food Industry

Akkim Becomes Industry Pioneer in Food Sector After bringing USK Kimya of Nazilli into its fold last year, Akkim is now implementing another new investment in the district. With its new facility launched for food additive production, the company has become the first and only manufacturer in Turkey to hold FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System Certification. Akkim Kimya, celebrating its 45th anniversary, continues its investment drive. Last year, the company acquired USK Kimya, the world's largest carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) producer based in Nazilli, Aydın, and has now made a significant additional investment in this field. After successfully completing inspection and certification processes, Akkim has brought its new facility into operation for food additive production. The new facility, inaugurated at a ceremony attended by senior executives of Akkök Holding, the parent company of Akkim, is the first and only facility in Turkey to hold FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System certification. Developed in response to international food sector requirements, the FSSC 22000 System provides companies in the food industry with an ISO-based food safety management system certificate recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akkim Kimya Chief Executive Officer Onur Kipri stated that they will continue their investment initiatives with the goal of sustainable growth. Noting that the carboxymethyl cellulose they produce in Nazilli has broad applications in the food sector, Kipri said: "We are pleased to bring such a facility to our company on Akkim Kimya's 45th anniversary and the first anniversary of our investment in Nazilli. We constructed a separate building for food additive production and prepared all technological infrastructure and systems. As a first in Turkey, we have obtained FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System certification. This confirms once again that our production meets domestic and international expectations and complies with national and international regulations. We will continue to strengthen our country through production, exports and employment." Ahmet Dördüncü, Chairman of the Executive Board of Akkök Holding, noted that they view chemistry as a locomotive sector and wished the new facility success for both Akkim and the industry.
