Ak Gıda Supports Fight Against Food Waste

Ak Gıda becomes a supporter of Metro Turkey's 10x20x30 Food Loss and Waste Reduction initiative, which the retailer launched in Turkey in collaboration with stakeholders to combat food waste. Ak Gıda, the largest dairy and dairy products company with a daily milk processing capacity of 5,000 tonnes, has joined the 10x20x30 Food Loss and Waste Reduction Initiative launched by its business partner Metro Turkey in the country. Under this initiative managed by the World Resources Institute, the world's 10 largest food retailers; working with 20 suppliers, aim to reduce food waste by 50 percent by 2030 through adopting a "Target-Measure-Act" approach. Ak Gıda CEO Ali Sözen, noting that water scarcity and drought are increasing globally due to climate change, which in turn reduces agricultural productivity, highlighted that the future of the food sector is at risk in terms of feeding the global population. Sözen said: "For a sustainable future, we all have a responsibility as both producers and consumers to reduce food waste and losses. With this awareness, Ak Gıda supports the 'Responsible Production and Consumption' goal, which is one of the United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals. In our biogas facility, we convert food waste into energy at a rate of 91.8 percent. Additionally, within our zero waste management framework, we separate all waste including food at the source in all our factory offices and send it for recycling. I believe that through our participation in the 10x20x30 initiative as part of our sustainability approach, our efforts to reduce food waste and losses will gain significant momentum."
