Are Foods Sold in the Open Virus Carriers? Food consumption is one of the basic requirements for maintaining an active and strong immune system necessary for the human body to fight diseases. People who stay away from foods of uncertain origin sold in the open and maintain personal hygiene at the highest level can thereby protect themselves and their surroundings from viruses. Prof. Dr. U. Tansel Şireli, Deputy Director General of Ankara University Food Safety Institute, states that basic hygiene rules must be followed to prevent virus transmission and warns consumers that unpackaged foods not subject to periodic inspection can be carriers. The World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to the importance of the issue by sharing hygiene practices to be observed during food preparation, while experts issue warnings regarding food safety to protect against virus spread. Prof. Dr. U. Tansel Şireli, Deputy Director General of Ankara University Food Safety Institute, warned that unreliable foods coming into contact with sick individuals can be carriers and made the following statement: "The recommendations provided by the World Health Organization for foods must definitely be followed. Basic hygiene measures to prevent contamination should be applied for openly sold cheese, milk, yogurt, raw meat, vegetables and fruits and other foods. Street milk of unknown milking and storage conditions must definitely be avoided. For milk, pasteurized or UHT milk treated with heat processing should be preferred in particular."
