Turkish Honey Introduced to 138 Countries

Turkish Honey Presented to 138 Countries Turkey, the world leader in pine honey production, increased its exports from USD 15 million to USD 26.2 million, a 76 percent increase, during the January-July period of 2022. Turkish honey exporters presented Turkey's beekeeping sector to thousands of industry professionals from 138 countries worldwide at the 47th International Apicultural Congress (Apimondia), held in Istanbul on 24-28 August 2022, which brings together all stakeholders in the beekeeping sector. The target is to reach USD 50 million in honey exports. The Aegean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association, where honey exporters from across Turkey are clustered, the Istanbul Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association and the Mediterranean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association jointly promoted Turkish honey at the International Apicultural Congress. Bedri Girit, Chairman of the Aegean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association, stated that Turkey accounts for 92 percent of world pine honey production and ranks second globally in honey production. He noted that Turkey's honey exports reached USD 41.8 million in the past year and that at Apimondia, they observed that Turkey can easily achieve USD 50 million in honey exports. Nedim Kalpaklıoğlu, Board Member of the Aegean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association, said that Turkey's honey sector was presented to participants from 138 countries at the International Apicultural Congress, and that they also conducted a tasting of pine honey, in which Turkey is the world leader in both production and exports.

Honey exports rise 76 percent

Turkey's honey exports increased by 65 percent over the past 12 months, rising from USD 25.4 million to USD 41.8 million, while honey exports in the January-July period of 2022 climbed by 76 percent from USD 15 million to USD 26.2 million. Over the past 12 months, the United States ranked first in honey exports at USD 13 million, while Germany demanded USD 7.2 million worth of Turkish honey. Turkey exported USD 5 million worth of honey to Spain, followed by Israel with USD 2.2 million in honey imports and Bulgaria with USD 1.6 million.
