Toros Tarım Named Champion in Chemical Fertilizers Export Category

The "İKMİB Export Stars Awards Ceremony," organized by the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) to honor member companies with the highest exports in their sectors, took place online this year. Toros Tarım won the championship in the chemical fertilizers export category in 2019, as it had in 2017 and 2018.

Toros Tarım Board Chairman Hakan Göral stated: "Our priority has always been meeting the needs of our domestic farmers, but we are also contributing to our country by growing in exports."

The fifth edition of the "İKMİB Export Stars Awards Ceremony," organized by the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) to honor and encourage member companies for their successful exports, was held online with the participation of Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan. At the ceremony, 140 companies that ranked in the top 5 across 28 categories were awarded. Toros Tarım, the sector's leading brand, won the chemical fertilizers export championship for the third consecutive time with exports reaching 343,305 tons in 2019.

Exports to 15 countries from India to Mexico

Toros Tarım Board Chairman Hakan Göral, commenting on the award, stated that winning the chemical fertilizers export championship for the third consecutive time was a source of pride and expressed great satisfaction in contributing to Turkey's foreign currency needs. Emphasizing that their priority has always been meeting the needs of domestic farmers, Göral noted that they view exports as a balancing factor according to conditions in the domestic market, thereby maximizing capacity utilization. Reminding that Toros Tarım, as Turkey's largest fertilizer producer, holds 38 percent of the country's total installed production capacity, Hakan Göral stated that in 2019 they achieved total fertilizer production of 1,677,730 tons with a high capacity utilization rate of 89 percent on average, thereby achieving a 4.6 percent increase in production volume compared to 2018 and a 3.5 percent increase in capacity utilization. Göral emphasized that they concluded a record year in sales as in production. Noting that they had a positive year in 2019 with increasing domestic market sales in addition to exports, Göral stated: "In 2019, we achieved total sales of 2,094,218 tons, comprising 1,750,913 tons for the domestic market and 343,305 tons for exports. Thus, we managed to increase our sales by 14.14 percent compared to the previous year. In addition to our increasing domestic market sales, we had a positive year in exports. We are pleased to lead our sector once again with 343,305 tons of fertilizer exports and to generate foreign currency for Turkey."

Indicating that Toros Tarım conducted exports to 15 different countries in 2019 across a wide geography spanning from India to Africa and from Romania to Mexico, and aims to strengthen its geographic reach with each passing year, Hakan Göral stated: "As Toros Tarım, we aim to become a regional player and progressively expand our global footprint under our own brand. For this purpose, we took some important steps in 2019. For example, we incorporated Agroport Romania S.A., a company that operates the sales and distribution operations of Nutrien, the world's largest fertilizer producer, in Romania, in order to make Romania, an important agricultural country, Toros's second largest market and to contribute to our objective of entering the European market. Thanks to our Research and Development Center's work, we continuously develop our product range with new products and formulations. Through our organic and organomineral fertilizer investments, we have become an important brand in this market as well. 2019 holds a special place as the year we conducted our first organomineral fertilizer exports," he said.
