thyssenkrupp Builds Polyester Production Plants for SASA in Turkey

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions has successfully commissioned a new polyester facility in Adana that will produce synthetic fibre. The facility, designed to produce 380,000 metric tonnes of PET annually (1,050 tonnes per day), is among the world's largest single-line production facilities for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) used in textile applications. Werner Steinauer, CEO of Uhde Inventa-Fischer, a thyssenkrupp subsidiary, said: "The commissioning of this facility, which offers high energy efficiency, represents an important milestone in our successful cooperation with SASA. When designing this project, we considered the entire value chain from the outset. This enabled us to implement an integrated facility that is highly efficient while also consuming low energy." The new facility uses proven, energy-saving 2R polyester technology consisting of Uhde Inventa-Fischer's patented ESPREE^® and DISCAGE^® reactors. This production process is suitable for daily capacities exceeding 1,200 tonnes. Direct transfer of the polymer melt from the polycondensation facility to subsequent processes is one of the distinguishing features of this facility. Basic and detailed engineering, procurement of all necessary equipment, assembly and commissioning services were provided by thyssenkrupp. Dr. M. Kemal Öz, Deputy General Manager responsible for Operations and Investments at SASA, stated: "It is gratifying for us to commence production at our new world-class PET facility in Adana, which delivers excellent performance and production quality. Ensuring seamless integration with our existing facilities was our primary requirement. The engineers at thyssenkrupp met this requirement to our satisfaction."
